    2. DUNCANSVILLE Mr. and Mrs. William F. Koon left Thursday morning for Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Niagara Falls, where they will spend several days sight seeing. I. W. Focht spent Wednesday and Thursday with his mother at Allenville. Mrs. W. P. Irvine is spending he week with relatives in Pittsburgh. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mutzabaugh and Frank Green of Harrisburg returned to their home after a very enjoyable visit with the former's brother, Win Mutzabaugh. Miss Edna Mutzabaugh, a daughter, who was also a member of the party, is spending her week's vacation here. Assessor L. B. Benner assessed and registered 98 women of the borough on Tuesday and Wednesday. Of this number 98 were registered Republicans the other 11 being divided among the other parties. Women to vote must pay 38 cents tax before Oct. 2, unless they have already paid state tax or tax on real estate. Professor Grant Norris attended a number of the sessions of teachers' institute held in Altoona this week. Mrs. Paul Ackers of East Liberty, Miss Garritt of Camden, J. J. and Mrs. Francis McGeary of Altoona, were recent guests of Miss Mary Beach. Albert Cochran of Cross Keys has the temporary appointment of mail carrier on rural route No. 1, succeeding Russell Gearhart, who has resigned. Being a resident of this route and being acquainted with most of the patrons, Mr. Cochran's efforts to serve faithfully are being well received. Mr. and Mrs. William Bradley of Los Angeles, Calif., were callers at the home of Mrs. Jane Wallace on Thursday. Word was received by relatives in town of the death of Bernard Rice at his home at Lima, O., on Thursday afternoon. A famous advertising slogan might be modified to suit local conditions and read "Have you a little paraffin chewer in your home." During the week a large number of youngsters have been noticed masticating some pure white substance upon inquiry it developed that the little folks have devised a plan to overcome the high price of chewing gum by chewing paraffin instead. While they admit they taste is not quite so delicious as that of the real stuff, it makes a fairly good substitute and certainly beats not chewing at all. After all, taste is not taken into consideration according to one little fellow who thought only of the amount "you kin git fer a nickel." Besides a large number of friends and relatives from Altoona and vicinity, the following relatives from a distance attended the funeral of Mrs. E. N. Lindsey on Thursday afternoon: Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Imhoff of Stellton, Mrs. Katura Stevenson and Mrs. Elsie Godfrey both of Youngstown, O., Clinton Ainsworth of Glenwood; Edward Kensinger of Pittsburgh, Messrs. Frank, Harvey and William Kensinger and Miss Mayme Kensinger, all of Martinsburg, Dr. J. W. Lindsey of Imler, Mrs. Ella Morehead and Mrs. Fickes both of King, Mr. and Mrs. Charles G?owden of Loysburg, George Ebling of York, Miss Sara Ebling of Tyrone, Fred Treese and family of Cresson, Mrs. Matthew Sell and Mrs. C. Z. Replogle of Roaring Spring, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Penroe and William Swisher of South Fork, Mr. Edward J. Imhoff, who is an official at the Bethlehem Steel company at Steelton, arranged all of the details of the funeral to the complete satisfaction of the family, who are greatly indebted to him for his kindness. Mrs. Peterson and two daughters, Mary and Grace of Nyack, N. Y., are visiting the former's sister, Mrs. L. H. Brown. Mrs. Ella McCaffney of Pittsburgh and Mrs. Shultzaberger of Altoona were recent visitors at the home of Samuel Beach. A number of young men from in and about town left Wednesday afternoon for Mill Creek where they have rented a cottage for a week to spend their vacation fishing and boating. Numbered among the party were: Messrs. Robert Gearhart, Luther Wyerman, Orville Wilt, George Wilt, David Yeckley and Roy Yeckley. -------------------------------------------- CARD OF THANKS We desire in this manner to thank our friends and neighbors for their kindness and sympathy shown, and for the many beautiful floral tributes and the use of their automobiles at the time of the death of my dear departed wife and our loving mother, Mrs. E.
