They were in the car cleaners' department under J. K. Ronah. Their fellow workmen as a token of esteem presented each with a handsome Morris chair last evening. The presentation was made by a committee headed by Foreman Roush. The home of Mr. Lantz was first visited, the worthy gentleman was taken entirely by surprise when he was invited into the parlor where his fellow workmen had quietly assembled. Greater was his surprise when A. G. McLaughlin, in a neat speech on behalf of the men, presented him with the Morris chair. Mr. Lantz was too much overcome to respond with a speech but heartily thanked the donors for their gift. After an enjoyable social hour and a dainty lunch the happy crowd adjourned to the home of Christian Mobus at 1215 Fifth avenue. They were admitted to the house and after they had set up the chair Mr. Mobus was summoned to their midst. After he had been seated in the chair, he looked up and exclaimed in his surprise: "What does this mean?" Spokesman McLaughlin in a few words told him that his fellow workmen desiring to show their esteem presented him with the chair with the wish that he spend any comfortable and happy years in it. Mr. Mobus was too much surprised to utter more than thanks and wish all a happy New Year. After some music had been rendered he showed his happiness by dancing a jig which was applauded by those in attendance. Several enjoyable hours were passed away there and then the crowd adjourned to their homes, feeling that they had passed a most enjoyable evening with their old associates. Conrad Lantz was born February 15, 1832, and had been in the service of the company since April 3, 1856. For thirty-eight years he worked about the local passenger station and has watched with interest the remarkable improvement in passenger traffic. Mr. Mobus is 68 years of age. Forty-three years of his life has been spent in the employ of the company, many years being at the passenger station. -------------------------------- BOARD OF HEALTH Report for the Month of December.
