A Railroad Watchman Killed Tuesday evening a fatal accident occurred in the upper yards of the Pennsylvania railroad at Harrisburg. Between 5 and 6 o'clock Thomas Gallagher, employed as night watchman at the asylum crossing of the Pennsylvania railroad, in the performance of his duty, had occasion to attend to a team which was about to cross the main tracks at that point. He failed to notice a car which was being shifted on one of the tracks and was thrown down and his legs horribly cut and great gash made in his head. The unfortunate man was almost instantly killed. The deceased was about 52 years of age, resided at Harrisburg and has a son who is fireman on the Pennsylvania railroad. Mr. Gallager was favorably known for his kindness of heart and faithful and prompt attention to his duty. ------------------ Mr. John Witherow, a supervisor of Knox township, Clearfield county, was struck on the head by a heavy stringer while assisting to repair a bridge over Potts' Run, on Monday of last week, and injured so badly that he died soon after being taken to his home, about a mile distant. The stringer accidentally slipped from the hands of the men who were attempting to put it in place, and Mr. W., seeing his danger, jumped into the water, but failed to get out of the way of the falling log. The Catholics of Lilly, like their co-religionists at Gallitzin, are making arrangements for the holding of a two-days' picnic for the benefit of their new church and contemplated parsonage, and have selected the 3d and 4th of July, instead of the 4th and 5th, as at Gallitzin, for their proposed festivities. A better place for enjoyment or a better cause to assist cannot be found anywhere. Dancing, music, feasting and fun are the inducements held out to those who delight in such things. Our young friends Charles and Joseph Schwab, of Braddock, paid their respects to The Times office last evening. Charley and Joe are from Cambria county, and hold good positions at the Edgar Thomson Steel Works, the first named being near the head of heap in the engineering department. Maggie Detrich, daughter of N. B. and M. E. Detrich, died at 8 o'clock last evening, of inflammation of the bowels, aged 1 year, 10 months and 25 days. The funeral from the residence of the parents, No. 1904 Twelfth avenue, on Friday. The hour and place of interment has not yet been fixed. ---------------- Wedding of Charles E.
