    1. [PABLAIR-L] Altoona Mirror, 1909
    2. Frankstown As this is the first letter from this, the oldest town on the Juniata, in the year 1909, we call especial attention to the fact that the Mirror, Altoona's leading paper, will find its way to many homes it has not reached as yet, and our future letters will give all the news as well as some historical facts concerning the Juniata valley every week. We also promise the patrons that the carrier will be informed that the paper must be delivered as soon as it arrives here. Further we would say to the people who get mail on the R. F. D. routes, that if they subscribe for the "People's Paper" it will reach them in good time. Give your subscription to Paul H. Mentzer or send same to Box 14, Frankstown, Pa. Sharp was on trial charged with assault and battery, preferred by Constable John L. Roe. Constable Roe stated that on Dec. 24 he went to Sharp's house, 2019 Fourteenth avenue, to replevin a sewing machine. After he was in the house some time, he went to open a door and Sharp struck him a blow in the face and also on the arm. Sharp's brother also took part and rained a few blows on the officer from the rear. Sharp, the defendant, stated that the officer used bad language before his wife and children, and that the officer struck him first. Mrs. Sharp testified that Roe pushed her and struck Sharp first. This morning a jury returned a verdict of guilt as indicted. The defendant was directed to enter his own recognizance, conditioned for his appearance at March sessions, when Judge Shull, who tried the case, will be here to impose sentence. Harry Conrad pleaded guilt to the charge of fornication and bastardy. His sentence was deferred. In the larceny by bailee case against Antis Ellis, the jury found the defendant not guilty. A jury was sworn in the perjury case against Charles A. Tucker, who it is alleged, committed the crime before a justice of the peace.
