    1. [PABLAIR-L] Pringle-help requested
    2. Hello to all my distant cousins, My lineage is grandmother Susan Pringle Dick, b Johnstown, PA, daughter of John P. Pringle, son of Philip Pringle, son of William Pringle, who is supposed to have served in the Revolutionary War in a Maaryland Regiment. Recently I was not approved for membership in the DAR because, quote, "We regret....The problem is that we have been unable to find any proof that this man [William Pringle] resided in Maryland. We need to prove that he resided in the locale where he performed the service. This will show that we have the right man matched with the right service. Also we have been unable to locate any proof of service for this man in the Pennsylvania records. Since this man's children's are all supposed to have been born in PA, it seems unlikely that he would be enlisting in a Maryland Regiment. Until this man's correct residence and service can be proved, we cannot accept any more applications through him." Because others were admitted to the DAR under William Pringle (Prindle) through his son Philip and Philip's other children, I had not done any research on William. I have seen the memorial in Ebensbserg listing him under Revolutionary War and can also get it on line. Is there any documentation for these people? Do you have any suggestions for verification of William Pringle's service. I spent about a year tracking John P. Pringle who, as some of you will remember, I found buried in Kentucky. Any help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Barbara Moll Oro Valley, Arizona and Lewiston, NY

    3. Hi: I have no solution, but some thoughts about your problem. Since the fee for copies of DAR members' applications is rather low, you might order all (or at least the most recent) applications. I found that they did not agree completely in the spouses of the children, etc. Some of my PA ancestors first settled in Berks Co, then went to Frederick Co, MD, and in the very early 1800s returned to PA, Huntingdon Co. I've noticed this occurring in other families, too. I seem to vaguely remember someone explaining this, but my memory is not what it used to be. Hope this help a little.
