Northern Cambria Dr. and Mrs. C. E. King and family have returned to their home in Bakerton after spending the past several months with relatives in Ford City. The extended visit was due to the impaired health of the physician. About 70 students from Bakerton reported for studentship at the Spangler High school on Monday morning and they will be transported to and from that town by bus service each school day. Melton Gordon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Gordon of Bakerton, is spending a vacation with his parents pending the opening of Harvard college, Boston, Mass., where he is enrolled as a student. Miss Peggy Sharbaugh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sharbaugh of Carrolltown, was a guest at a house party held at the summer home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Arnsberg of Pittsburgh over the week-end. Donald Shoemaker and sister Nan, of Ebensburg, were also guests at the party. Bob Arble and Bill Sharbaugh have returned to their homes in Carrolltown after a motor trip to Philadelphia and Gettysburg. They were guests of Mrs. Victoria Walsh, aunt of the former, while in Philadelphia. A surprise party was held at the home of Mrs. Theresa Holtz of Carrolltown with a large group of relatives and friends present for the program of entertainment. The occasion was the natal anniversary of Mrs. Holtz, who was 76 years of age on Sunday. Folks from Hastings, Patton, New Germany and Carrolltown felicitated the celebrant. She received many nice gifts. Mrs. Warren Laimer of Cherry Tree underwent an operation at the Spangler hospital for the removal of her appendix recently. The patient was the former Miss Florence Yahner of Hastings. The condition of the lady is good. Mrs. Mary Eckenrode, Mr. and Mrs. Frank N. Donahue, Mrs. Donald McNelis and daughter, Donna Mary and Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Eckenrode of Carrolltown, Mrs. M. L. Buck of Hastings and Mrs. Elizabeth Rafferty of New Orleans, Pa., were in Altoona to pay their last respects to the late Holden Eckenrode, whose funeral was held in that city Tuesday morning. The deceased was a kinsman to all but Mrs. Rafferty. Miss Naomi Schettig of Ebensburg was hostess at a party held at Lonely Acres, near Bradley Junction, where many guests were entertained Tuesday evening. A number of Northern Cambria towns were represented at the gathering. Mrs. Ray Farabaugh of Carrolltown and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Harclerode of Ashville started Wednesday for New York city and other points of interest. Mrs. Joseph Stich and daughters, Annabel Stich and Mrs. Genevieve Snyder, and son, Julius Stich of Altoona, were among their relatives in Northern Cambria recently. Mrs. Wilfred Blum and Mrs. Ray Farabaugh of Carrolltown are daughters of Mrs. Stich. Mrs. Harry Fees and children of Bakerton and Miss Aileen Stolz of Carrolltown have returned to their homes after spending a couple of weeks at Camp Sunshine, Bedford county. Tipton Miss Harriet Butler and Mrs. Ross of Altoona were visitors at the home of Miss Butler's mother Mrs. Martha Butler this weekend. Mrs. Paul Ardrey and son Richard of Newark, N. J., are making an extended visit at the home of her parents here. Mrs. B. B. Bowers, a former resident of this place, now of Chambersburg, was a recent visitor at the home of her parents. Rev. Frank Arles of Summerville visited the homes of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Potts, also Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Moffit. Clarence Trout of this place, at this time employed on a farm in Tioga county, was seriously injured when he fell from a load of hay at that place. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Cameran attended the funeral of Mr. Cameran's uncle, Mr. Scott Cameran at Ligonier on Saturday. The condition of Mrs. E. P. Irvin, who underwent a serious operation at Blair Memorial hospital, Huntingdon, last Wednesday, is now reported getting along fine. New Paris Ross Mickle of Sentinel Butte, N. D., is visiting the home of his father and grandmother, Harry Mickle and Mrs. Cora Gephart. Mr. Mickle was a graduate of the New Paris High school of 1926. In July, 1927, he left in company of his brother, Irvin Mickle, and Harry Cuppett and motored to North Dakota where he taught school and later has made his home. Rev. J. H. Lilly accompanied his daughter, Miss Florence and Miss Alice Suter to Central City on Monday where the young ladies are employed as school teachers.
