    2. Newry Resident Married 55 Years Mr. and Mrs. William J. Rhodes, well known residents of Newry, observed the fifty-fifth anniversary of their marriage at their home last Sunday, surrounded by all their children, grandchildren and a few close friends and relatives. The ceremony uniting William J. Rhodes and Miss Sarah Dodson was performed at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Newry, Rev. James Bradley, a pioneer priest in this section, performing the ceremony. Both Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes are natives of Freedom township where they went to housekeeping and reared a family, devoting the best years of their lives to farming. A few years ago they retired and moved to Newry to spend the remainder of their years in the enjoyment of the fruits of their labors. Sunday being a suitable day for the observance, members of the family and friends gathered at the Rhodes home during the forenoon and the entire day was spent in social diversions and feasting at the tables prepared for the occasion and which were laden in accordance with the custom of these thrifty farmers. Members of the family partaking of the bounteous noon meal were Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes and their four daughters and one son, Mrs. Martha Fox of Sunnybrook farm, near Bellwood; Mrs. Sadie Hite of Newry, Mrs. Bernadine Sheridan of Altoona, Mrs. Mary Evans of Hollidaysburg and Ralph Rhodes of Windber. Others enjoying the festivities of the occasion were a number of grandchildren, some of whom were accompanied by members of their families, and Arthur Kennedy of Ore Hill, Earl Shoemaker of Hollidaysburg, Mr. and Mrs. Elias Stanger of Eldorado and Mrs. Bernard Evans of Hollidaysburg. Thirty-nine, in all, surrounded the tables. Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes were recipients of choice gifts and best wishes for many more happy anniversaries. Both are enjoying good health and have the best wishes of a host of friends. Lakemont Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Stiver and daughters Margaret, Eva and Edith of Second avenue and Robert Lampe of First avenue motored to Baltimore, Md., and spent a couple days with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kounse. Miss Helen Stiver who had been visiting in Baltimore for three weeks returned home with them. John Strobaugh has returned to his home on Gesser avenue after spending a few days visiting in New York city. Recent guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bennett were Joseph Gressley and family of Lewistown and Mrs. Belle Gressley of Barnesboro. The Busy Bee Sunday school class of the Church of God will hold a special meeting in the church this evening at 7:30 o'clock. All the girls are urged to be present. Mrs. W. M. Gesser and three daughters, Janet, Jean and Kathryn were Sunday evening guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Conlon of Altoona. The True Blue Sunday school class of the Church of God, taught by Mrs. H. A. Nonemaker and Miss Vara Gesser will hold their class meeting in the church on Friday evening at 7:30. All members are urged to be present. The Silver Star Sunday school class of the Church of God will hold their regular meeting on Friday evening at 7:30. The class is taught by Miss Hazel Gearhart. Juniata Gap Belle McCartney of Wehnwood has returned home after spending several days vacation at Atlantic City. The Who-so-ever prayer group will hold a prayer meeting at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Keyes this evening, at 7:30 o'clock. Everybody is invited. Martinsburg Mrs. Bessie Ferton and son Fred, jr.,and daughter Betty of Bloomington, Ill, are visiting the home of Mrs. Felton's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Showalter on Locust street. Mrs. Luther Showalter has been confined to her bed for the last few days with tonsillitis. Rev. Victor Steinberg and family returned on Monday from their two weeks vacation trip. Altoona Tribune Married Eberst-Hauser-In Hollidaysburg, on the 25th inst., by Rev. M. Wolf, Mr. Anthon K. Eberst to Miss Ursula Hauser. Griffet-Zigler-On the 19th inst., by Rev. Baker, Mr. William Griffet and Miss Sue Zigler. Stewart-Beigle-May 17, by Rev. J. Walker, Mr. Henry H. Stewart and Miss Lizzie Beigle, all of this city. Died Fleming-On the 21st. Inst., Andrew Fleming, aged 41 years. ------------------ Wanted-A Home is Wanted for a child one year old.
