WILLIAMSBURG Postmaster J. R. Detwiler is ill at his home suffering from an attack of acute appendicitis. The Fox Hollow and Blair Four schools in Patterson independent district will open for the ensuing term on Monday morning Sept 6, while the schools of Woodbury and Catherine townships will not open till one week later, Sept. 13. The school boards at recent meetings passed resolutions to enforce the vaccination law and it is hoped all parents will comply with the law before starting children to school. Miss Cora Snively, after a month's visit with relatives in Montana and many other places west of the Mississippi, has returned home and is now in charge of her millinery store on High street. Seymour P. Brantner, wife and children Seymour and Lucy, accompanied by H. T. Thompson, enjoyed an overland trip recently to State College, Pleasant Gap, returning home by way of Bedford Springs. During their trip Mr. Brantner took pictures of many places of interest, especially farm scenes, which are very entertaining to his friends. Robert Nash and Thomas Cunning, two prominent members of the Liberty band of Blair Four, were visitors to Altoona on last Saturday. Misses Elsie and Fannie Free returned yesterday to their home in Huntingdon after a pleasant visit at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Scott and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Parks. Mrs. Edith Hunter Radabaugh, after a week's pleasant visit with her sister, Mrs. B. W. Roller, returned to her home in Tulsa, Okla. Robert Leatherman of Greensburg spent several days with friends on business and pleasure combined. Bob first saw light of day here and seemed to enjoy himself hugely, exchanging greetings with old time acquaintances. Samuel Manning of Mt. Etna, who served three years in the World war and twenty months overseas, reenlisted yesterday in the infantry for three years and will be one of Uncle Sam's boys on guard duty in Germany. On Tuesday evening a delightful social as a farewell in honor of Sam was held at the home of William Obernlander of Bell Four. ------------------------------------------ LOST A black and tan fox hound, good size, answers to name of Max. Liberty award if returned or notify Patrick Johns, Cove Forge, Blair county, Pa. ----------------------- JUNIATA GAP On Monday evening while returning from work, Mr. Cole had the misfortune to break one of the front wheels of his automobile. Mrs. Mary Keys, and her granddaughter, Miss Miriam McClellan, have returned from a trip to Niagara Falls, Buffalo and other points of interest. They were gone eleven days and had a splendid time. Class No. 1 of the Methodist Sunday school will hold a corn boil on the ground adjoining the church on Friday evening. The proceeds will be used to help purchase a furnace for the church. All are welcome. Mrs. Anna May Watters and son Moreland and daughter Mrs. Margaret Stains have returned from a visit to Philadelphia. Mrs. Amanda Stambaugh and granddaughter Jessie Stick of St. Clairesville were visitors the past week at the home of the former's daughter, Mrs. Thomas Slick. Miss Sue McCartney is taking a vacation trip to New Jersey. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Foreman are spending a part of their vacation in Cleveland, O. Leroy Hamel and John Slick attended the final test for entrance to High school on Friday last. James Yingling has added considerable improvement to his property. George Schmid, sr., has accepted a postion with the P. R. R. company. A party of young folks from Altoona enjoyed a corn boil at the home of Samuel Frazier one evening last week. Mrs. John Yon has suffered a relapse. She was getting along splendidly and was allowed to sit up a short time each day. Owing to the damp weather she contracted a severe cold. Resulting in asthmatic trouble which has confined to her bed again. The funeral of C. P. Hamel's grandson, little Billy Hamel, was largely attended by relatives and friends of Altoona and vicinity. The services were in charge Rev. William Dysart of Bellwood, and Rev. Eugene Miller of Altoona. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Summers, Mrs. Charles Jackson and Cecil Jackson were among a truck load of visitors on Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Frazier. A party of young people were detained somewhat in their trip to the mountain on Sunday when the right front wheel of the truck broke down.
