    2. CARROLLTOWN Miss Blanche Lieb and Misses Marceline and Mary Luther returned to their homes on Thursday evening after an absence of two weeks at Atlantic City and other western cities. The girls reported a real vacation. Miss Rose Mary Stevens is home from a three weeks visit with relatives in Altoona. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Edward Stevens. The seventh daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ben Randell at their residence at Sylvan park on Thursday morning. The couple have three sons. Mrs. Randell and the latest arrival are well. Mrs. Isadore Bender of Hastings spent Wednesday with relatives at Carrolltown. Dr. and Mrs. Albert Willson and son, Albert, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Sharbaugh left Friday morning for Washington, D. C. after visiting several days with Attorney and Mrs. Fred J. Fees. The party intended motoring as far as Harrisburg on Friday and to Washington on Saturday. Mrs. Frank J. Myers, Mrs. George Hogue, and Mrs. J. E. Erkilla, the former two ladies of Ebensburg and the latter one from Detroit, Mich., were guest of Mrs. Fred Fees last Thursday. Dr. and Mrs. E. F. Arble attended the dinner served to eighty-five doctors and ladies at the Brandon hotel, Spangler on Thursday. The Cambria County Medical society held a business session at the hotel after the dinner and the ladies engaged in bridge. A crate of asbestos shingles caused some commotion in the church square, Main street, about 5:45 p.m. Thursday. The shingles were being delivered to another part of town and when passing into Carroll street, the crate fell from the truck in which it was loaded. Impact with the concrete broke the crate and scattered the contents about the highway, with a racket. Another machine passing through the square just missed the avalanche. ----------------- MARTINSBURG Mrs. Louise Layman has been confined to her bed sick for the last several days. Rev. J. L. Hall will be looking after the evangelistic work of the Brethren church in Bedford county on Sunday. Therefore there will be no preaching services in the First Brethren church at this place on Sunday. Miss Doris Ames, former teacher of economics in the Cove Vocational school, now an instructor in Norbeth school, accompanied by her mother of Wellsborough, are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Bice. On Wednesday L. R. Over purchased of David Keag of Philadelphia, the large brick building on the corner of East Allegheny and South Market streets, consideration $10,000. The building is now occupied on the first floor in the front by the hardware of Nissley and Carper, D. S. Smelser, saddler and the Morrisons Cove bank. Nissley and Carper are now contemplating the purchasing of a lot on South Market street upon which to erect a store building. Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Baker, of Johnstown, paid a visit to Mrs. Baker's mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Brubaker, on Thursday. H. W. Burket, editor of the Martinsburg Herald, accompanied by his wife and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bolger, started on a ten days vacation on Friday, touring New York state and Canada. On Thursday the Aid society of the Church of the Brethren at Roaring Spring spent the day at the Morrisons Cove home. They brought with them some of the necessaries for a good dinner, which they shared with the guests of the home. ------------------- GORSUCH GETS PICTURE IN RETURN FOR SHOE The following letter was received on Friday by Charles Gorsuch, the Martinsburg blacksmith, the famous maker of miniature horse shoes. "Philadelphia, Pa., August 12, 1925 Mr. Charles Gorsuch, Martinsburg, Pa., Dear Sir: I beg to inform you that the Court of Her Majesty, the Queen of Italy, has instructed this royal consulate to assure you that H. R. H., the Princess Mafilda, has received your horse shoe and has appreciated your kind thought. Complying with your request, H. R. H., the Princess Mafalda, has graciously consented that her picture by donated to you and I have the pleasure to enclose herewith to you. Kindly acknowledge and receipt.
