    2. PORTAGE Mrs. George Yeckley spent several days this week with her mother, Mrs. Glancy, of Gallitzin. Mrs. P. McGough paid a business trip to Cresson on Wednesday. Mrs. J. F. Schofield and Mrs. B. Supple were in Altoona shopping on Wednesday. Miss Annie Finnegan visited friends in Galltizin on Tuesday. Miss Mabel Mears has returned home after spending a month visiting with friends at western points. Mr. James Smay is the happiest man in town, all over the arrival of a young lady at his house. The infant daughter of Mrs. John Helsel is very ill A crowd of our most popular young men drove to Cresson and picnicked all by themselves on Wednesday. Mrs. John Dugan, and son, Roy, of Freedom, Beaver county, are visiting her mother, Mrs. M. Border. Mr. and Mrs. F. Hammers, jr., spent Wednesday at the fair in Ebensburg. Misses Emma and Millie Hopfer is spending this week in Ebensburg. Mrs. W. J. Jones, of Lisbon, visited Mrs. Edward Hughes this week. Mrs. Thomas Callen is recovering from her recent illness. ------------------- FRANKSTOWN Mr. A. Martin and Mrs. Kate Elliott and Miss Chauncie Ickes, of Philadelphia; Mrs. Jennie Snyder and Mr. Malcolm Snyder, of Altoona, and Mrs. Rose Clapper of Lakemont, spent Thursday visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Rodkey. Clara Alice, the bright little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Mentzer, fell from the porch at her home on Sunday evening and sustained a compound fracture of the left forearm. Mr. Elmer Caldwell, of Clarion county, spent several days visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. West Caldwell. Miss Cora Piper of Duncansville, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Merritts. Mrs. Harriet Zeilinger, after spending two weeks in Canoe Valley, has returned to her home. Miss Elsie Gorsuch is recovering from her late illness. Mr. Albert Zeilinger is suffering from an attack of quinsy. Misses Erma Bucher and Maud Blair, of Sunbury, are spending a pleasant month visiting relatives of our town. The Frankstown band will furnish the music for the Grangers picnic at Dell Delight on September 4. Rev. Mr. Sprague, of Philadelphia, will preach in the Hollidaysburg Baptist church tomorrow at 11 o'clock. Mrs. Lizzie Gibson and daughter, Marie, of Altoona, and Mrs. John M. Robison, of Hollidaysburg, visited Mrs. A. B. Reed on Friday. Jakie Baird has been greatly benefited at the Roaring Spring sanitarium. He is visiting his parents this week, but will return to the sanitarium Monday Mrs. Julia Lang is suffering from a badly sprained foot. Mr. Warren McKendree and Miss Minnie Hippensteel were married on Wednesday evening. Mr. Ernest Robison has been greatly benefited since trying for a change of climate for his health. Mrs. Fox is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Mentzer. Lutheran Sunday school at 9 o'clock, Methodist at same hour. Preaching in the Methodist church tomorrow evening at 7:30 o'clock. ------------------------ DUNCANSVILLE Miss Carrie Lee has graduated from the Nason sanitarium at Roaring Spring as a nurse and is now spending some time at home. Merchant Tailor T. F. Koon is taking his vacation this week and accompanied by Contractor A. B. Delozier, is spending the time fishing along the Raystown branch. Miss Annie Berg's music pupils and a few friends had an outing at the "overflow" yesterday. Rev. Samuel Moody, pastor of the Presbyterian church, is off on his vacation. He will spend part of his time at Atlantic City. The upper end of the pipeline is pretty nearly completed and once they strike town the work will go much faster.
