While preparing for a house sale, my aunt found a wonderful old photo of workers at the Pennsylvania Railroad car shops. On the back it states that the photo was taken in 1882 at 9th Avenue and 8th Street, Altoona, PA. Two of my ancestors are on this picture: John George Waltz (My elusive great grandfather--finally!) In this photo he is 18 years old, and my great great grandfather, Michael J. Waltz. Althought the photo is not in the best of shape, it is wonderful to finally have a photo of the man that I've been trying to find a picture of for the past 4 years (When he deserted his family, all of the photos of him disappeared--which I can totally understand, because all of the photos of my ex-husband seem to have vanished also!). If anyone else had ancestors working at the car shops on 9th Avenue and 8th Street in Altoona, please let me know, and I'll send you a scan. I also hope to get it posted within a week on my website so that folks can grab it from there--but I have to finish helping my aunt with the house sale first!
