It depends on her birth date. If before Oct 20, then she was born in 1898. Otherwise, she would have been born in 1897......... Donna, your question regarding the wife's year of death was actually one of math.: "What would you consider 42 years prior to 19 Oct 1940?" 1940 minus 42 years is 1898 of course. So, one would say that the wife died sometime in 1898, because it is doubtful that the obit really meant exactly 42 years to the day. Perhaps there is more to your question that you did not ask?
