William Berckheimer complained that the large tower of the Methodist Episcopal church was cracked and that life and property were endangered thereby. Mr. Berckheimer said: "They told me that when the little tower fell down in May it was the act of God. Now, if the big tower falls, won't it be the act of the devil?" Councilmen Lindsay and Henshey were appointed to confer with the church trustees as to the safety of the tower. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday, July 4, 1899
