The Cloudcroft mystery photo reminded me of another couple of Altoona mystery postcards I bought some time ago on eBay, so I rummaged around on the bookcases in my office and found them, scanned, uploaded and linked them just now. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/pa/blair/1picts/altpcards/altoonapcards.htm Take a look at the photo postcard of the ruins of the Imperial Department Store, and also at the photo postcard of William Gable. I swear the man sitting front right in that photo is Mark Twain. What do you think? The back of the postcard simply says it was taken by the Gables photography department. No details. I added a couple of other postcards, too. No more mysteries, though. Judy
I remember reading that Mark Twain visited the area when he rode the Inclined Plane at Mountain Lake to Cresson. Do you think this was the visit?? My favorite is still the Baltzell cottage. I am going to look up his obituary, find the exact location of the cottage, and go see where it sat. The more I look at it (it is now my wallpaper on the computer) I think I see a figure standing at the right at the top of the stairs. By the way, I seem to remember that Mark Twain was not too impressed with his visit to the area. Forgot, never heard of the Imperal Hotel, that will be another Joe Conlon question.
