TYRONE TOPICS Mr. Mahlon Cryder will open a term of school at Tipton in a few days. Mr. John Albright has returned restored to his former good health, which his friends will learn with much pleasure. Lawyer Stevens last week placed in front of his cozy home the finest and most suitable iron fence in town, costing but a trifle more than the ordinary picket fence. Mr. George Beyer, son of Mr. F. D. Beyer, left last week for Montana territory. George is young and vigorous, and we hope to hear of his winning success in the far west. Mr. Harry Myers, a student of Lehigh university, is home on a short visit. Harry is one of the few of Tyrone's ambitious young men who means to make his mark in the world. On Saturday last 865 loaded cars were brought over the Clearfield branch. Allowing twenty-two tons, as an average to the car, givens a tonnage of 19,030 tons, which exceeds by 1,100 tons the trade of any preceding day. The Friendship hook and ladder company on Saturday purchased a lot sixty feet front by 170 feet deep, fronting on Blair street, for the sum of $250. The boys have ordered new uniforms and mean to make a fine display here or somewhere else on the glorious Fourth of July. Mr. Cal Anderson, who received painful scalds about the face, eyes and neck, last week, is feeling comfortable. That he will lose the sight of his eyes is a mistake. His eyes are all right. The accident occurred at the paper mill, and was caused by boiling liquor flying into his face. --------------------------------------- SINKING VALLEY NOTES Old winter is loath to allow the fickle maiden spring to assume control. There is considerable sickness in our valley at present, originating from bad colds. Catharine, wife of James Temple, is seriously from erysipelas of the face, with slight hope of recovery. Warren Crawford, from some unknown cause, has mysteriously disappeared and his whereabouts is anxiously looked for by his numerous friends. David Crawford and wife were suddenly called away to Cumberland valley to attend the funeral of Willie, son of Rev. Henry Fleck, Mrs. Crawford being a sister of the reverend gentleman. We have had some trouble in securing our new postoffice, not by any defect of the department at Washington, but by the meddling of some one in the employ of the department. We have our suspicion resting on a certain person and until he comes out with a denial we will allow them to rest right there. However, we secured the office all the same. On Friday the remains of Adie Russell were lowered into the silent tomb. Mr. Russell was aged 85 years, 10 months and 3 days. He was strictly temperate in all things, honest and upright in all his dealing, charitable and kind to all in destitute circumstances, a good neighbor, a kind and loving husband and he passed away as gently as a babe falling asleep. His remains was followed to their final resting place by quite a large number of friends, relative and neighbors all willing to pay the last sad rite to a man who was honored and esteemed by all who knew him. Peace to his ashes. ------------------------------------------- MARRIED PARKS-CAWTHERN.-At Bell's Mills, April 17, 1884, by Rev. S. F. Forgens, Mr. Emmanuel J.
