Hello from London to all my Blair County Buddies. I need help with the William and Katherine (Hampshire) Davis family who, according to the 1880 Census, lived in West Martinsburg, Blair County. William was a house carpenter and 38 years old (indicating a birth date of about 1842) and had been born in Pennsylvania of parents both born in Pennsylvania. His wife, Kate, keeping house, was listed as 35 years old (indicating a birth date of about 1845) and had also been born in Pennsylvania of parents both born in Pennsylvania. William and Kate had four daughters (Minnie, Carrie, Ida, and Ella) and a son (Clarence). Minnie Davis was born 20 August 1861-1871 (the Census lists her as 19, which is possible, as her parents were 38 and 35 but the ages of the next children were 8, 6, 4, and 2 so she may have been 9 rather than 19). She married Edgar Warren Bowers 29 January 1896 in Roaring Spring. They had four children together - Floyd, Ray, William and Frank Bowers. She died 15 February 1905. I've just heard a family story, though, that says Minnie died giving birth to twins. According to the story, one of the twins also died and the other, a boy named Mahlon, was adopted by a family named Snyder. I would greatly like to discover 1) if this story about the twins is true and 2) the origins of William Davis and Katherine Hampshire. Can anyone shed some light on this family or suggest "places" to check? Thank you, Deborah Hainley Bonnar dahbonnar@aol.com London, England
