    3. To roll call people: Many of the surnames being posted are duplicated in the 1811 tax roll for Antis township (then in Huntingdon Co.). It seems that a third or more are surnames of families from Frederick Co. Maryland. It is confusing because some families went back and forth between MD and say, Lancaster Co. PA. And some siblings went fro other PA areas to Antis Twp. Anyway, a very large number of related families left Frederick's Evangelical Reformed (German Lutheran) church between 1800 & 1810 and settled in the (then) Huntingdon Co., PA Allegheny Twp. (most of that area became Antis Twp. and in 1846/8 the area was included in Blair Co.). Please do not ask me for the information below regarding the relatives of my Lefever - post your query here or after joining, on the Frederick MD rootsweb site! About 1806 some families from Frederick formed in Antis Twp. what was originally called the Logan Valley Salem Lutheran church. It was located in the Logan Valley - Juanita River area, Antis Twp. the congregation was very small. My group included nine (9) Smith sons & daughters with consorts. They were the offspring of a Matthias Smith (Schmit) & wife Anna Maria (Mary Ann) Buchman or Hugman) of Frederick County, MD. Some were: John Mitthias Smith (wife Mary Magdalena Main / Maen and Jacob Smith (wife Catherine Lefever) & my john Lefever (wife Catherine Martz). This related bunch included: Daniel Creager / Kriger, Lemel Root (wife Magdalena Smith). Wm. Bottenburger / Buttenburger (wife Christena Smith), Peter Kesler (wife Ann Smith). George Regan (wife Sussana Smith), and Conrad Bower / Bauer (wife Elizabeth Smith. Relatives that went there also were: George Adam Domer, (son of Darthea Miller - wife Catarina Bauer). Catarina's parents were Detrich & barbara Muhlhouser Bauer. Relatives were Streafer. All of these surnames are recorded in this church. It seem most were members, some were not, but in the records of this church.. The microfilm of the old church ledger is difficult to read, so some names I did not attempt to decipher. Some of the earliest baptisms of children were sponsored by Abraham Mathiews (sp?), George Domer & John & Jacob Smith; Ale? / Ake?; Swartz. . Early baptisms included: Craine; Beamer; Harger; Domer; 6 Ryeans /Ryans; Smith, Swartz, Law or Low, Crain?; Hesler?; Lots; Robinson. Son John Troxel was sponsored by John Troxel & wife Catherine -parents were John Troxel & wife Polly. Early members or "Communicants" included some other surnames: Riggle; Fetter; Turnbaugh / Furnbaugh; Hammer?; Noggle / Naggle; Nabour; Wimer; Lefever; Bower; Brithers; Manley; Yingling; Lots; Hart / Mart?; Heuston; Nelson; McCartmey; Hoover; Hartzell; Nelson; Volentine; Laferty; Coleman; Lego; Hull; Young; Black. Please do not request additional information regarding this church from me. Blair County Gen. / Historical Society has the microfilm of the original church ledger. Good hunting, Morris LeFever

    3. Does anybody know why people went back and forth between Frederick County, MD and Pennsylvania? My 2nd g-grandfather, William Magill, married Theresa Wilhide of Graceham, Frederick County, MD. I have long wondered why he married a woman from MD. Thanks! Chris Magill Wieland in snowy North Canton, OH > It is confusing because some families went back and forth between MD and say, Lancaster Co. PA. 3. Hi: You are right, the microfilm of the church records is very, very hard to read. It is also available through the LDS under either Salem Lutheran Church or Antis Lutheran Church. I think I found it by searching for films about Blair County or Antis Township??? My great grandmother, Margaret (Craine/Crane) McGlinsey was the first child whose baptism is recorded there. As I recall, this was a German-speaking church. Up until I read this film, I had assumed my Crane/Craine ancestors were Scotch-Irish, not German! Or did father Abraham Crane attend the church because his wife, Margaret Emigh, insisted??? She was born in Germany.
