    3. Deb, You know I'd be happy to include your obits on Blair Archives, but they have to be transcriptions. Unfortunately, we Archives folks can't upload obit scans. Scanned images are not "searchable" and they take up, in great numbers, enormous amounts of server space. The Blair County RootsWeb message board does allow the upload of jpg scans. I know of several folks who automatically transcribe each obit and include the image as an attachment, on the RootsWeb board. The url is http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.blair/mb.ashx For what you are proposing to do, I think the message board would be the best approach. Perhaps you could add a note saying each one has been posted in her memory? This is a great idea you've come up with, and a really fitting tribute to a woman who worked for so many years to make data available to all of us. I'm still trying to cope with believing this has really happened. Annie was so "alive." First, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to Annie's family. I can't begin to tell anyone how many obituaries I received from Annie over the years, since all of my family members are central to Blair and Huntingdon counties. I was just shocked to hear of her passing. I hope it is a comfort to her family to know how many of us she touched over the years and what an impact Annie made in the geneaological world. Second, are all of those obits Annie scanned for all of us recorded anywhere for future researchers? I personally have every obit she ever sent recorded electronically in the jpeg format she sent them in. Is there a place on one of the sites where I can submit them for posting so that Annie's hardwork will continue to help others? If we all submitted the obits that we have saved from her, we could come up with quite a database of names that will help others. If anyone has more information about Rootsweb and sites like that and can help me out with what to do, I'll be more than willing to zing off my probably 400+ Annie Whiteman scanned obits. Third, I know from recent correspondence with Annie that she had more obits to share with all of us that were already scanned and on disks. She also had hard copies that needed to be scanned. If her family would so desire, I know for one that I would be willing to continue her tradition. With deep regret for the family and everone on the list, Deb Riley ----------------------------------- No flaming permitted on this list.
