    1. [PABLAIR] BLAIR CO., PA. P.R. R. AND OTHER MISC.
    2. >From The Register, Hollidaysburg, Blair Co., PA. A Locomotive has just been turned out at the Altoona shops which has more than double the pulling capacity of the ordinary engines. The engine has eight drivers and is the most powerful on the Western Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Wed. 26 Jan. 1876 issue. The amount of property held by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, within the limits of Altoona, is fifty-three and a half acres, and in the shop erected in that place about 3,000 men are employed. Wed. 26 Jan. 1876 issue. Thomas A. Scott, Josiah Bacon, Wistar Morris, John M. Kennedy, Alexander J. Derbyshire, Samuel M. Felton, Alexander Biddle, N. Parker Shortridge, Henry M. Phillips, John Scott, Pittsburgh, have been renominated as Directors of the Pennsylvania railroad.. The election takes place in March. Wed. 26 Jab. 1876 issue. Blair county has been in existence about thirty years. Who shall be appointed to write its history for the centennial Fourth? ( Altoona Sun) In answer to the above query, we would say, that Hon. Samuel Calvin, a member of the bar, practiced in Hollidaysburg, long before the erection of the county, and in every way is well qualified for the task, and would make our proper historian. There may be others qualified for the position, but none better than he. Wed. 26 Jan. 1876 issue. On Friday night of last week, the wife of Mr. Wm. Wertz, living in the Loop, about three miles from this place, gave birth to triplets, all girls. The mother and children are all doing well. This makes fourteen children by the one marriage. Wed. 19 Jan. 1876 issue. In 1875 the County of Blair paid out for fox, hawk, and other scalps, $1,136-whilst in Bedford and Somerset counties, the bounties amount to but a few hundred dollars, and these counties are much larger in territory than ours, and equally, if not more, mountainous. In the first six weeks of the present year, over $1400 have already been paid in Blair county, and at this rate, during the remainder of the present year,, these scalps will run up to $10,000. There is no doubt great rascality and perjury is being committed. Is it not high time the scalp law should be repealed? Wed. 1 March 1876 issue. The citizins of Bedford county, are making the necessary preparation for securing a full cabinet of minerals to display at the centennial. Blair county ought to be also represented in her mineral resources and industries. 1 March 1876 issue. M. S.

    1. [PABLAIR] The Mystery of my great-grandmother Anna Marie Pagenta
    2. Christy Varner
    3. Hello everyone, I got a mystery on my hands regarding my great-grandmother Anna Marie Pagenta (October 22, 1888-February 8, 1945; in Hollidaysburg, PA) who married Italian Immigrant Joseph "Joe" Pagenta/Pagent. It's regard whether her maiden was Knee or Tremmel. Who are her parents? According to the death certificate (both parents are listed as Blair County born), her father is listed as John Tremmel, but in the space here the mother name should be it state "Don't Know". But according to her obituary in Altoona Mirror, her parents were John and Frances Tremmel. I been told that her maiden was Knee and can see it in the 1910 census that she is listed as Anna M. Knee. Knee is listed also in obituaries of both her daughters Regina M. Cassidy (1908-1993) and Mary E. Varner (1914-2004; my grandmother) and is also stated in her son Matthew J. Pagent (1913-1962) in the California Death 1940-1997 Indexes. Her children were: Regina M., Melvin F., Matthew Joseph, Mary Elizabeth and Vincent DuPaul Pagenta (later used Pagent; the brothers used Pagent). Regina was married to a Chester Vaughn then to David Cassidy (1900-1973), Melvin was married to Marie Dunn, Matthew, I don't know if he was married, Mary Elizabeth married William T. Varner, and Vincent married Virginia M. Callan. Also that my great grandmother Anna was a member of St. Michael's Catholic church and she buried in St. Mary Cemetery (New) in Hollidaysburg without stone or marker. So don't who see about where plot is? I even went to Blair County Genealogical Society this past Wednesday (2-3-2010) couldn't find much without more data and couldn't stay long due to weather. So if anyone can help me, I would be very grateful. Regards, Christy A. Varner Mount Union, Huntingdon County

    1. Re: [PABLAIR] Isabel (?) Haney buried? - Update.
    2. Christy Varner
    3. HI again, I want to information you on update, I found that Isabel Haney (also known as Isabelle Haney) is buried in Grandview cemetery in Tyrone. I found that her daughter Anna "Annie" Haney who at that time was married to Justice Amberson Hoff. According to death notice in The Tyrone Herald, June 2, 1904 that her remains were brought to the homes of her relatives, Harry H. Hunter and John Hoff. Which I learn were Anna Hoff's son-in-law (via daughter Isabelle) and her son, John. Someone told me that her maiden name might be Cramer. Also I do know that according to Huntingdon County Courthouse death record book that her birthplace was Morrell. Her son was Samuel Haney (also listed as Samuel B, later Samuel W. Haney). Sincerely, Christy Varner Great Great Great-Granddaughter (via son Samuel) P.S. if anyone got more information on her husband and their children Anna (Abt. 1861), James (abt. 1863) and Samuel Haney (1869-1949) On Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 10:30 AM, Christy Varner <cavarner21@pennswoods.net> wrote: > > Hi, > I am looking for cemetery that Isabel (unknown maiden) Haney is buried? I know that she died May 28, 1904 (death notice in The Tyrone Herald, June 2, 1904 along with her daughter-in-law Laura Singleton Haney who died the Same Day) in Pemberton, Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, USA. And that she was 72 years old. In death notice which is little hard to read state she was to be buried in Tyrone Cemetery. So where is this cemetery located in Tyrone? Isabel or also known as Isabella was my great great great-grandmother. I know she had relative that lived Tyrone, an Harry H. Huster (not should about last name hard to make out in paper) and John Hoff, they both lived on Washington Avenue. She was member of the Columbian Avenue M.E. church of Tyrone. I know children Samuel (my gg grandfather), James, and daughter Nannie (not should spelling). Also her husband is listed > > Ellis Haney. Any information on cemetery or her side of family, would be great. > Sincerely, > Christy Varner > Great Great Great-Granddaughter

    1. [PABLAIR] family MOSEL from Germany
    2. Jesse Davis
    3. . Do you have information about Johann Frederick Mosel, born on 5 Feb. 1802 in Hitzhausen (a village next to Ostercappeln). I am looking for the ship or the date when he went to America. The date of the death is also interesting for me. His father is Gerhard Heinrich Mosel, which married Anna Maria Helmkamp on 18 Sept. 1789. He must die between 1816 an 1819 and I went to fourteen different churches next to Ostercappeln, but I didn't find his death. Do you know if he also went to America as his son? Should I contact Mr. John W. Bornholdt, I think his is the person, from whom you get your information ??
