On Thursday last, after a settled and lingering disease, Consumption, JOSEPH L. FLUKE, of Logan township, and formerly of Williamsburg, aged 37 years. ----------------------------- ANOTHER FATAL STABBING AFFAIR--A sad affair occurred at Fostoria, in this county, on Wednesday evening last, between two men named Osborne and Meadville, both residents of that vicinity. The circumstances of the affair are reported to be about as follows: They were sitting together in front of Esterline's store, arguing about some unimportant matter, when Osborne called Meadville a liar. Meadville replied that if he (Osborne) called him a liar again he would whip him. Osborne then jumped up and said, "you're a G-d d-d liar," and Meadville at once rose and grabbed him by the throat-the bystanders at the same time catching him to pull him away-when he exclaimed, "I'm stuck." Upon examination it appeared that he had received a stab in the breast, which penetrated the left ventricle of the heart. It was given with a Barlow knife. The wound, it was soon discovered, was a serious one, and at about one o'clock on the same night he died. Osborne was arrested, and the next morning brought to jail, where he awaits trial. Both men are said to have been sober, and previously on good terms. Osborne has a wife and three children. Meadville was unmarried, but was the support of an aged and dependent mother. -------------------- ACCIDENTS Philip Farbauch, an employee at McNamara's rolling mill, was severely injured about the back and shoulders, on Thursday last, by falling upon him of a derrick. Wm. Stone, of the Gaysport Foundry, sustained a severe injury to one of his legs on the same day. He was assisting to remove a heavy casting which accidentally slipped off the rollers and rolled over his leg. The limb was painfully bruised but fortunately no bones were broken. 3. Source: History of Huntingdon and Blair Counties (1883) - page 106 Frankstown Village Just when this locality assumed the aspects of a village we cannot determine, but probably some time about the year 1800, upon the establishment of Lazarus Lowery's grist and saw mills. At that time John Cunningham was the innkeeper. In 1810, Dr. John Buchanan was the resident physican and the manufactories consisted principally of distilleries, though Joseph Patton had a tannery in operation. The villages consisted of twenty houses and lots. Happy Researching

DIED HOUCK, In Hollidaysburg, August 11, 1872, of cholera infantum, Nettie M., infant daughter of Isaac C. and Eliza Houck, aged 3 months. ------------------------- VALUABLE FARMS AT PRIVATE SALE The subscriber offers at private sale a FARM in Sinking Valley, Blair county, within eight miles of Altoona. Also, a FARM in Indiana county. Either farm will be sold cheap for cash, on long time or exchange for city property. Inquire of: DAVID RAMEY ----------------- $15 REWARD, Fifteen dollars will be presented to the person who delivers to William A. Magonagle, Train Dispatcher at Tyrone, Pa., a Gold-headed Cane, bearing a presentation inscription to William Bell. The cane was left in a passenger car, at Tyrone, on the afternoon train from Bellefonte, on August 7, 1872. No questions asked. The cane only is wanted. -------------------- PASSED THROUGH, Hon. John C. Breckenridge passed through Altoona on Tuesday evening last, taking supper at the Logan House. ---------------------------- ARM BROKEN, A little girl named Susie Coates, living with her parents on Green avenue, on Sunday evening last, fell off the sidewalk and broke her arm. The little unfortunate had her arm broken at the same place and in a similar manner a couple of months since. The fracture was reduced by Dr. Fay. ------------- MIDNIGHT PROWLERS, Sometime during Monday night of last week the residences of Hon. G. W. Patton, Mr. G. W. Kessler, and Mr. L. P. Work, on Eleventh avenue, were entered by midnight prowlers. The residences of the two former were despoiled of a number of edibles, Mr. Patton being the heaviest loser. In addition to the edibles stolen from the premises of the latter all his canned fruit was either taken away or destroyed. There was nothing taken from the residence of Mr. L. P. Work, who has been absent with his family for some time past. ----------------- Police Notes Pay-day being among the days of last week there were more than the usual number of drunks and disorderlies who sought an interview with the Mayor. Some were fined and those who were bankrupt were given quarters in Fort Ramey. On Friday last there were four sailors arrived in the city from Philadelphia, and soon afterward became uproariously drunk The police picked up tow of them, and having no place of confinement belonging to this city they were locked up in one of Mr. Ramey's buildings, in the First ward. The next morning a policeman discovered the other two sailors lurking in the vicinity of the lockup, and using disrespectful language toward a woman who was engaged in milking a cow near by. They were arrested by Chief Westbrook and assigned quarters with their companions. Previous to being put in the lock-up one of the sailors struck a wicked blow at the policeman, but it was warded off and reciprocated in a manner which caused the pugilistic sailor to bite the dust about twenty feet distant. At the hearing before Mayor Kinch the party was discovered to be bankrupt, and after promising to leave the city instantly, the doors of the city prison were thrown open on Saturday evening, since when they have not been seen. A bankrupt individual, giving his name as Lalor, and employed in assisting to excavate the vacant lot opposite the Opera House, was arrested three times on Friday and Saturday on the charge of violating the ordinances. At the third hearing he was given forty-eight hours in Mr. Ramey's Penitentiary. A couple of juveniles were arrested on Wednesday last on a charge of stealing some fifteen dollars from the till of the News Depot of H. Fettinger & Son. The money was all recovered but about thirty cents, and the boys were locked up for twelve hours. A party of six boys and two inebriated men were having a jolly good time over at the reservoir on Sunday evening. The appearance of the Mayor was necessary to check their boisterous proceedings. --------------------- Annie Whiteman PABlair Rootsweb List Administrator Annie Whiteman/Steve Patz Blair County Coordinators http://www.rootsweb.com/~pablair

MARTIN Hollidaysburg May 3d, 1842 --------------------- MORE PROOF READ WHAT IT HAS DONE. This is to certify that my wife has been afflicted for months with a severe, dry tickling cough, and so much that for several weeks she could sleep none at night, and she was wasting away under it rapidly, as if going into confirmed consumption. I happened to see an advertisement of the American Concrete, prepared by Jacob Snyder, and I procured a bottle, and before it was half used she was greatly relieved, and is now completely cured! This is a simple statement of facts candidly given. LAZ. 2. Robin, There was a copy of one of the Silver Grey Club directories/books for sale on abebooks.com a while back - very expensive, if I remember correctly. Blair County Historical Society may have records, or there may be records in the Hoenstine collection, now at the Blair County Genealogical Society.
