    1. PABlair Annie's mistake
    2. Frank Bobak
    3. Wow, this has been the most activity on the list in a long time, it's a shame it's because of a simple mistake. I have to totally agree with Sharon, Barbara, and Michele, Annie has done so much for me in my research. Most of my brick walls happen to be in Blair County and when I first subscribed to the list I didn't find it all that friendly. Annie changed that! Isn't it amazing that one person can and does make a difference? There are always individuals out there that are offended by the simplest things. Hey, get over it and move on. Annie I miss the obit postings!!!! I looked at them all the time because I was afraid that I would miss something important. I haven't had the pleasure of working with the BCGS yet, I'm trying to decide how to write my request, but it is my understanding they are volunteers and if like any typical nonprofit probably overworked. For those of us the live out of the area we need to rely sometimes on the goodness of others to do our research. I would wish they would have more information available on the web though. Thanks for listening. Frank

    3. I'm replying to the email message from Michele Pierson. I just joined the PABlair website hoping to read about people searching for ancestors and history and I have been extremely disappointed in the amount of emails that there are being exchanged. I am not a professional researcher but am extremely interested in finding more information on some of my ancestors from the Blair County area. I have exhausted the information that I could gather from Ancestry.com and was hoping that PABlair would be the answer to my research. I have found my Great Great Grandparents, William and Margaret McKinney in the 1850 census, but have been unable to find what happened to most of their children (other than Henry). I am also searching for the birth parents of Charles Ager who was born about 1887, but I know for a fact that his mother's name was Sara/Sarah Neff. I do not know if this was a married name or a given name. I do know that at age 13, Charles Ager took the name of his stepfather, Henry McKinney (my Great Grandfather). These people lived in Blair County and were usually found in the Antis Township area. I have been told that Charles Ager (my grandfather) was born in Bellwood, PA. Is there anyone out there that can direct me as to where I can find marriage records or additional information on my ancestors? Thank you, Nancy Cramer Myrtle Beach, SC ----- Original Message ----- From: "My Belle" <[email protected]> To: "PABLAIR" <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2007 11:45 PM Subject: PABlair What happened to the obits? > The Blair list used to post obits every day, there used to be lots of information exchanged by posters and list members, and it used to be one of the most active boards I'd subscribed to. What happened to kill off the exchange of info here? It now seems the Centre Co. board (thank you, Justin Kirk Houser!) is the most active list remaining of those I subscribe to, and I rarely get mail from the Blair list at all anymore. For those of us who live out of state, it has been a major blow to lose this flow of info, especially those obits we'd all come to expect in our mailboxes on a daily basis. 1. PABlair Annie's a gem!
    2. Hi Fellow Listers! I became a member of this list several years ago because I was desperately trying to find out more information about my family history. Unlike many other genealogists, I was actually trying to find living siblings that I had never met. Since I did not know their names or where they lived, I decided to start with what I did know and try to put the pieces together. I knew nothing about genealogy or how to conduct my research. Almost immediately I found the PA Blair list and had the good fortune to become acquainted with Annie. As many of you know, I found the PA Blair list to be very active. I especially enjoyed receiving the regular obituary notices and newspaper articles. As it turns out, it was actually an obituary notice that ultimately helped me solve a 45 year old family mystery. The obituary notice was for my grandfather and it listed one daughter and FOUR grandchildren. Until I read that obituary, I never knew how many grandchildren existed. I only had knowledge of two grandchildren. Annie then helped me find out how to order a death certificate and when I received it I found an informant's name. This was the name of my half sister. As a result, I made a phone call and finally made contact with two half sisters that I had never met. I can't tell you what it meant to me to have so much help with such a deeply personal need to learn more about my family. Now I am able to have regular contact with my sisters and a deep void in my life has been filled. Annie went on to teach me how to order court records, and gave me information about the local cemeteries. She actually found a number of my "missing" relatives in local cemeteries and gave me addresses and telephone numbers of the caretakers so I could get more specific information about the graves I was trying to find. I eventually learned that my beloved grandmother did not even have a marker and now my family is raising the money to place a stone on her grave so she will not be forgotten. Over the years, I have received detailed information about several relatives because of the work that Annie has done on the obituaries. Annie referred me to the county genealogical society and I decided to join as a result of this referral. I live in a midwestern state and could have never accomplished so much without Annie's friendly help so freely given to a stranger. I don't have much money and certainly never could have afforded to pay someone to help me find out about my family. As a result of Annie's generosity, I now have well over 400 names in my database. I have traced some family lines back to Switzerland in the 1600's. I love genealogy and find it to be a very fullfilling hobby. I try to do volunteer work for others in my local area in honor of all that Annie has done for me over the years. I have the utmost respect and regard for Annie. I agree with other listers that it is very easy to make mistakes for I have made too many in my life to count. But it is rare indeed to find someone like Annie who is so knowledgeable and hard working to the benefit of so many. Annie is a gem in my book! 2. Sharon Sheldon
    3. Barbara - "Me too!" :-) I couldn't have said this any better. It was obvious that email was not meant for public distribution, and I find it sad that those who got it in error (which was 99.9% of us) couldn't resist sending it on to those who may have been mentioned by name in the email. :( Some faxes I receive state on the cover sheet that if you get the transmission in error you are to notify the sender and destroy the fax and not further distribute it. I think this is a good rule of thumb for emails that are obviously distributed in error due to an honest mistake. The content shouldn't matter. Had the erroneous email been a flowery poem outlining the virtues of the BCGS, I'm sure no one would have done anything but deleted it. ;-) We are all guilty of getting frustrated with other human beings from time to time. Volunteers in genealogy run from the mildly interested to the extremely passionate. I have benefited from Annie's passion for helping others - her generosity with her time and resources, over and over again. I hope this unfortunate incident can be placed into context and that everyone can move on towards our common goals of piecing together our respective family lineages. Annie - we love ya! To any who may have taken offense, I offer that offense can only be taken if Annie's comments were sent out of mean spiritedness. Perhaps those remarks and observations will become the catalyst for better service or perspective from those tasked with helping long distance folks find their Blair county roots. 3. Hi Annie, I took your advise and yesterday called the library and told them I had not received my June, July and Aug. newsletter. I also told them I had problems receiving the March, April and May issued and Annie had helped me get that. I then went on to say "Annie said ya'll were having problems getting out the newsletters". The lady seemed to get a little upset with that but did go on to write down my name and address. I also gave her my membership #. She implied, never came out and said, it was a problem with the mail service. I didn't ask when the newsletter was mailed out and she didn't offer that information. I feel I'll now get this newsletter and will write in my calendar about when I should get the next one. The library staff was very helpfully when I was there in Sept. 2005. My husband and I were also in the Fairview Cemetery, I should say lost in the cemetery, and Jennie's husband saw us and invited us into their home. It was a wonderful experience and Jennie was a great help to me. When I lived in Houston, Tx. I used Clayton Library and they have a number of books this society has published. Because of those books I knew my Morgan/Thomas lines were buried in Fairview. I have always spoke highly of this society and for $15.00 a year the newsletters, which are more like a booklet, are a great deal. Most of the other societies only put out a couple of pages and their dues are about the same. With all that said and if this keeps up, I just may not renew my membership next year. By mentioning your name in my phone call, I hope I didn't create problems for you or anyone else. That was not my intent. I do appreciate all the work you have done and avenues you directed me to take in genealogy. I'm hoping in the near future to put together a booklet on my Morgan/Thomas lines, including copies of a few old pictures, and donate it to the library. Of course at this point I'm not sure what I want to do nor if they would even want anything from me. Take care and glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. If I offended anyone by my remarks, I am sorry, it was unintentional, and hope we can all just forget this. 1. PABlair mistake
    2. Listers, I am truly sorry my email was sent to the list. I had meant it to be a personal email, and not sent to the list. 1. PABlair Idiots
    2. Jennie, I am so ticked off at those idiots at the BCGS, the only person that answered my email re; the newsletter was Jim, that is so typical. They spend their time out there doing nonessential things, and ignore any complaints. I can't believe Ray Beck called them 'nastygrams'--he is such a fool. Can't they understand the only benefit from a membership that out-of-towners get is the damn newsletter? Half of the time the newsletter is full of junk, plus the usual plea for money from Charlesworth, give us money, give us money, his policy is 'it's not what we can do for you, it's what you can do for us' morons--if you think about it, there is not one person out there now that was involved with Bob Roller and his money, you can bet he would never have left the money if he knew what was going to happen. I don't care what anyone says, I have read the letters he wrote to Billie and Ann Lisa, if it weren't for them, there would be no BCGS as it is now. I am tired of pretending to everyone how just wonderful the BCGS is--I feel like going to a meeting and standing up and complaining, and naming names too. Okay, that is it for now, I will keep bugging Jim about the missing newsletters, which is sort of sad, he has to hear my complaints and he is not even a board member anymore, Dumber, of the team Dumb and Dumber will no doubt go to everyone whining about what to do, and in the end it will be Jim that cares of it. I asked her for a contact person for the BCGS months ago, and she ignored that, she doesn't want me telling her about problems with anything, but she won't fix it. I have nothing to do with the BCGS anymore, and cannot explain that to the list, Rootsweb has nothing to do with the BCGS, and other than hosting a website for them, Steve and I have no obligation to them, I don't know about Steve, but I am sick of being nice. For sure that is it, take care, have fun at the reunion.
