    1. Re: [PABERKS] Jacob Zimmerly Family PABERKS Digest, Vol 6, Issue 77
    2. Would anyone know who the parents of Jacob Zimmerly are? I was also wondering if anyone knows if there is a ship list that shows where this Zimmerly family came from? In the 1850 Census Earl Twp., Berks County list Jacob Zimmerly family, who was born about 1796 in Germany. 1850 Earl Twp., Berks Co., PA Roll 754 p. 470 Jacob Zimmerly, 54, b. Germany Margaret Zimmerly, 54, b. in Berks County David Zimmerly, 6 Margaret Zimmerly, 4 Sarah Zimmerly, 10 There was no Jacob Zimmerley household in PA in 1820, but then this Jacob would have only been 16 and probably still living at home with his parents. We know the 1850 census says Jacob was born in Germany around 1796, and his eldest child, Jacob was born in 1825 in PA. We can assume then that the senior Jacob Zimmerly arrived in America between his own birth in 1796 and the birth of his son the junior Jacob Zimmerly in 1825. Which means that he could have been in his fatherâs household in America as early as 1800. In 1820 there were only two Zimmerlys in PA. One, a Henry, lived in Bedford County and one lived in Montgomery County. The one in Montgomery County, by proximity, would be a more likely candidate for the father of the senior Jacob Zimmerly. That was Isaac Zimmerly who lived in Skippack and Perkiomen, Montgomery County, PA. The 1820 census leaves a lot to be desired and I found it impossible to determine if there was a male child in the household that would have been the right age for Jacob. There were 2 males and 1 female in the household. There were no Zimmerlys 1810 or 1800 PA census, but there was an Isaac Zimmerman in both. It is unknown whether Isaac Zimmerman of 1800 and 1810 would be the same as Isaac Zimmerly of 1820. Living next door to Isaac in 1810 was a Jacob Zimmerman. 1810 Whitpain, Twp., Montgomery Co., PA Roll 52, p. 1256 Isaac Zimmerman, 3 males, 4 females Jacob Zimmerman, 4 males, 4 females 1800 Whitpain Twp., Montgomery Co., PA Roll 41 p. 116 Isaac Zimmerman, 2 males 16-26, 2 males 26-45; 1 female 16-26, 1 female 26-45, 1 female over 45. Jacob Zimmerly Sr. b. 17 Mar 1797 in GERMANY d. 5 Aug 1851 Earl Twp., Berks Co., Pa. Wife: Margaret b. c.1796 d.1865 Douglass Twp., Berks Co., Pa. Married c. 1824. Children: Jacob B. Zimmerly Jr. b. 25 Oct 1825, Mary Ann, Hannah b. 21 Aug 1824, Christiana, Elizabeth, Sarah Ann,David B, Anna Margaret and Daniel. Notes: Hannah Zimmerly was baptized on 17 Oct 1824 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading, Pa. The sponsorâs for Hannahâs baptism were David Koerbe & Cath. Reis. There was also another son named Daniel Zimmerly who was born 29 July 1826 and baptized on 15 Oct 1826. The sponsors for Danielâs baptism were John Kauch & Hannah Baum; (Daniel may have died young). Jacob Zimmerly Sr. (1797-1851) is buried at the former Zionâs Church of the Evangelical Association (1850-1962), 1204 Montgomery Ave. New Berlinville, Berks Co., Pa. 19545. 1851 Berks Co., Administration & Estate Papers for Jacob Zimmerly Sr. state that: âJacob Zimmerly of Earl Twp., Berks Co., Pa. died intestate leaving a widow named Margaret and issue eight children to wit, Jacob B., Mary Ann married to a Conrad Pley/Bley, Hannah married to Henry Nester, Christiana, Elizabeth, Sarah Ann, David B. and Anna Margaret, (the last five being minors of whom Petitioner (Ezikiel Rhoads) is Guardianâ. 1865 Douglass Twp., Berks Co., Administration & Estate Papers for Margaret Zimmerly shows that she was the widow of Jacob Zimmerly. The Administrator for the estate was her son Jacob B. Zimmerly Jr. Also mentioned in the papers is her son David B. Zimmerly. Note: Margaret Zimmerlyâs maiden name may have been Baum. Naturalization records are on file at the Prothonotary's office in the Berks County Court House in Reading, PA. I believe their Naturalization records begin at 1795 which doesn't help much since I am looking for something before that date. The records prior to 1795 are probably in the Philadelphia court records. Perhaps the Prothonotary's Office Archive Center as listed below might have records prior to 1795.
