    1. Re: [PABERKS] Reading Eagle
    2. Gee it looks impressive to me! I don't believe I have found and other newspapers anywhere that have a free archive search such as this. Do you know of any others in general? There is an area that some of the family moved to up in the mountains to work in the coal industry and so far the last thing I ever found about them was in one of the census years....nothing after that. I look forward to perusing the website you provided and many thanks for providing those several other addresses Betty. I'm very fortunate that my Dad's family lived an area that has such extensive history and records. I can imagine that current residents are very proud about this! The search engine is not the greatest but it is workable. You can select a year by typing the year in the "Date" field. For a specific date you need to got to the year and select the month and day from the newspaper icons. Sometimes typing a term or phrase in the Google News field will yield results and sometimes not. Adding Reading Eagle to the search terms sometimes narrows it down to the Reading Eagle and sometimes not. Watch out for missing issues, they can sometimes be included in the issue from the date before or after. It isn't a perfect world but it's better than no access. You might also want to try a search at the Recorder of Deeds in Berks County. There is a wealth of genealogical information in some deeds. https://counties2.recordfusion.com/countyweb/login.do?countyname=Berks Or try the Register of Wills which has and index to marriages, deaths, estate files. http://www.co.berks.pa.us/rwills/site/default.asp Click on Genalogy in the left side bar. Most certainly you will want to search on the Berks County, Pennsylvania Genealogy site http://berks.pa-roots.com/ where there are literally thousands of items posted.
