Most of the info is from will abstracts, plus what I can find in church records. In the marriage of Maria FEHR to George HOFFMAN by Rev. T. F. Illing, she was shown to be of Caernarvon Lancaster co. and he from Robeson. The marriage entry reads: 1/7/1781[1782??] - GEORGE HOFFMAN, of Robeson twp., and Maria FEHR, of Caernarvon, Lancaster Co, the 1st, at Schweinhert's. 12/30/1791[sic] , the 2nd at the Forest, Jan 9, the 3rd the day of the marriage at John FEHR's. [received 1 pound, 2 shilling and 6d] (NOTE; the dates are mixed up in this marriage! Usually the couple announces on 3 consecutive Sundays, so I think marriage on the 3rd Sunday should be sometime after 1/9/1792.) However, it does show that Maria FEHR was from Caernarvon, Lancaster Co at that time. In 1800 Census, John FEHR was in Caernarvon, Berks. And his will was probated in Caernarvon, Berks Co under John FAIR, showing 8 shares to be divided among his 8 children including 1 deceased son Marx. 1800 Census, Caernarvon, Berks Co PA John FAIR 1 male 10-15, 1 male 0/45 1 fem 0/45 Will of John Fair, Caernarvon, Berks Co PA Will dated 7/8/1807, proved 4/18/1808 Provides for wife Barbara. Plantation where I now live to be sold and proceeds divided into 8 shares to sons Philip, Jacob, and Peter, dau. Mary, sons John, Mathias and Michael and remaining share to child of deceased Marks Fair. Exec: son in law George Hoffman Wits: Peter Schweitzer and John Bear. Someone had told me years ago, the the residents of the town were able to choose if they wanted to be in Berks or Lancaster, when they were setting boundaries. Not sure if that was 1752 when Berks Co was formed or later when Caernarvon's boundaries were set. Need to research that point. Judy is correct about not assuming that John FAIR's wife was a WAMSHER. We have never found a marriage record for him and wife Barbara. The William Wamshire who administered her estate was only shown as a relative. Precisely how they were related is not known.
