Author: geni_lady Surnames: Johns, Koch Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.berks/10487/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm trying to help a cousin solve a mystery about her home built c.1850. Years ago when they were renovating their home, they found carved into a board in the stairwell, "Christina Johns brot by Edwin Koch Apr 6th 1796." Do you think this means that Edwin brought Christina from the homeland on this date or is there another meaning for the word "brot"? We don't know who built the home. It seems logical that Edwin, Christina or a descendant built the home. I searched the Berks Co deeds online with no hits. Any thoughts or suggestions? I think this a logical suggestion. Reminds me that in German the word for a bride is braut. The two names in the reference are both German: JOHNS and KOCH.
