Regarding the months, the calendar used in England and her colonies changed in 1752 from Julian to Gregorian. Under the Julian calendar, March 25 was New Years Day, and March was reckoned First Month, April as Second Month, and so forth. The calendar they switched to in 1752 is the same as the one we use today. I am trying to prove the parentage of my ancestor Hannah Worrall, born 3 Sep 1767. She married Isaac Clendenon 21 Dec 1792. These dates came down through my family. I believe both her birth and marriage took place on Berks County, but have been unable to discover any public record of either. Isaac and Hannah lived in Belmont County, Ohio, from about 1805 until the 1820s when they moved to Morgan County, Ohio. The man I believe must have been Hannah's father was Benjamin Worrall, son of John and Hannah (Taylor) Worrall of Marple Township, Chester (now Delaware) County, Pennsylvania. He was born 22 Mar 1744 at Marple. He was disowned at Providence (aka Chester) Meeting in 1767 for drinking to excess and marrying a woman who was not a Quaker. He appears in 1777 as a soldier in Weaver's company of the 10th Regiment of the Pennsylvania line of Continental troops, having enlisted at Lancaster. A story handed down in the family of his son Jonathan, states that Jonathan, probably about 7 or 8 years old, had the job of delivering his father's lunch at the military encampment at Lancaster, so the family must have lived quite close. Benjamin's company was among those who suffered the terrible winter at Valley Forge, and saw action as far away as West Point. He was discharged in 1781. In 1792, he made his apologies and regained his membership at Chester meeting. Soon after, he requested transfer to Robeson Meeting in Berks County, where I suppose he had been living for some time. Benjamin's older brother Jonathan also lived in Robeson Township. In 1796 Benjamin's membership was transferred to Providence Meeting, near Redstone, Pennsylvania, which was about as far west as there were any Quaker meetings at the time. By about 1802, they had moved over into Jefferson County, Ohio. Benjamin's final move was in the 1820s to Morgan County, Ohio, where in 1832 he applied for a pension based on his service in the Revolution. It is supposed he died not many years after. George Worrall who married Deborah Starr on 12 May 1779 at Maiden Creek, Berks County, and had the children you listed, was a son of Benjamin's older brother Jonathan, and his wife Elizabeth (Davis) Worrall. At the Berks County Historical Society library last summer, I saw a manuscript book of information compiled by John E Eshelman, in which it is stated that Isaac Clendenon, Jr., married Hannah Worrall, daughter of Benjamin. Although I understand that Eshelman's work is considered reliable, he did not cite any source. So, I still lack proof of the parentage of Hannah (Worrall) Clendenon, and would be glad for any help in locating it. -- Dan Treadway P. O.
