berks co. history. shollenberger, milton d. of richmond twp., was born june 7, 1858, s/o capt. jonas m. shollenberger. the shollenberger family of upper berks co. had its origin in frederick and gerhart schollenberger, the former came to america in the ship, loyal judith, 1742. both schollenbergers were very likely brothers, who were residents of greenwich twp. in 1759, both were married, a singel man, by name, henry schollenberger was a resident at that time. john m. shollenberger, grandfather of milton d. he married catharine merkel of richmond. children; sarah, daniel, catharine, john, louisa, nathan, jonas m., elizabeth, edwin, malinda, lydia and fianna. capt. jonas m. shollenberger, was married oct. 23, 1853, to mary dry, d/o david and susannah ((yoder) dry spohn family. the cemeteries show some of the early records of the family. henry spohn, born march 10, 1729, died jan. 25, 1810, his wf mary katharine born march 12, 1736, died jan. 25, 1810. adam spohn, s/o henry was born jan 25, 1758, died jan. 18, 1831. his wf. elizabeth was born dec. 15, 1764, died sept 23, 1829. maria katharine spohn, w/o henry was a famous nurse in her day, and attened 1,114 births. during the rev. philip spohn became a lt. in the 8th company of berks co.
