In the DeTurk genealogy book, pages 14-15, the author lists the 6 children baptized of Johannes DeTurk and Hester Kip, and does not show Katarina. The baptisms were found in the register of the Refugee Congregation there in Frankenthal. The youngest listed is Esther Cornelia DeTurk, 8/17/1687. Assumptions have been made that Katarina was born after this date to them, but if that is true, then I would think the record for her would have been included in the list of the other 6 children baptised at the Netherland Reformed Church in the Palatinate, aka Huguenot Refugee Congregation at Frankenthal for Johannes and Hester. I am not persuaded by the trees on WorldConnect that she is Isaac's sister. But then, I like the hard evidence! > >Somewhere I saw where Isaac came to NY on the Globe with his sister Esther, but her name is not on the list of passengers of that first ship with Rev. Kocherthal's party, so I doubt that is true. He was shown as bachelor then, and name was shown as Isaac Turk/Turck, and he married the widow Wimer/Wemar, who was on the ship with her daughter Catharina age 2, in Fall of 1709 in Esopus NY, according to the DeTurk book. Daughter Esther was baptized in NYC at the French Reformed Congregation on 4/29/1711. So they were on their way to PA by then, per the DeTurk book. >By 3/11/1712, warrant was issued to Isaac for 300 acres in Oley, Phila Co. Patented on 7/28/1712 for 30 pounds. > >Important Note: >The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I agree, hard evidence is required - but it can be fun to speculate, as long as it doesn't become 'fact'. > >In other branches of my family, there are a few women who have several names although we are absolutely certain they are one and the same person. In one instance a woman is always referred to as Sally, but the baptismal records show her as Sarah. Usually the names are similar or else the name is written so poorly that it was transcribed incorrectly. This could be the case with Katarina. There are two siblings of Isaac's that might have been very poorly transcribed: Jacomina b. 1677 and Esther Cornelia b.1687. Although I have absolutely no evidence, neither have I seen the handwritten documents. "Cornelia" just possibly may be Katarina (similarity in sound, possibility of poor copying). OR - perhaps more likely, Katarina could be Isaac's cousin or some other DeTurk relative that he is acquainted with. >Ah well ... the search goes on. > >Important Note: >The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
