Greetings. I am new to the list and am posting here what I have recently tried on the PALANCAS mailing list. At best it states a discussion on naming practices, spelling variant etc. I have been trying to locate the parents of Johannes Hage & Catherine Frey. A "cousin" did some research back over 10 years ago and donated it to the York Co Historical Trust. In it she give the marriage of this couple as ; Johannes Hage son of Conrad Hag(e) married Catherine Frey daughter of "Late" John Frey on Aug 7, 1781 in East Cocalico Twp. Lancaster Co., PA . No one is able to locate this record. Is it possible its in Berks Co.? I believe I may have found Catherine Frey in Muddy Creek in 1777 in the record below. The record states she is 17 yrs old. Catherine's head stone has her birth day as Aug. 10, 1760. We share the same birthday 200 years apart. PASTORAL ACTS AT THE LUTHERAN & REFORMED CONGREGATION OF THE MUDDY CREEK CHRUCH EAST COCALICO TWP., LANCASTER CO.,PA 1730-1790 R929.37481 R311 v.5 p.118 Johannes Rupp & Margaretha Frey m. in Muddy Creek 20 May 1750 p.207 confirmed in the year 1777: CATHERINE FREY 17yrs Anna Maria Rub (Rupp) 15yrs Michael, Elizabeth, Peter and Catherine Frey were communicants @ St Luke's in 1801 along side with of John & Catherine (Frey) Hage in Chanceford Twp York Co. Also Peter Frey was listed as the administrator to Catherine's Hage/ Hake's estate when she died a widow . I am assuming Peter & Michael are family somehow. John Hage first appears when he purchased land in York Co in 1787 According to the deed registered in York Co. Johann Hage purchased 263 Acres and 120 perchs from John Gohn in 1787. The patent was granted in 1810 for $ 206.5.7 The first record of the family in Church records for this area is 1788 for the birth of son William Hoeck. They had Samuel, Maria Catherina, Frederick & John prior to this according to John Hake's' Will but I have not been able to locate their records. After William came Susanna, Conrad, Benjamin, Elizabeth and Jacob. HAKE, John. Chanceford Township. February 24, 1811 September 26, 1811 Executors: Martin Armstrong and Samuel Hake. Wife: Catharine Hake. Children: Samuel, John, William, Frederick, Conrad, Benjamin, Elizabeth, and Jacob. With John's father being Conrad and its not until his fifth child does he name on after him, he does not follow the German naming custom. His daughter Maria (Heck/Hake) Illges died after childbirth in 1808. Daughter Susanna born 1792 is unaccounted for. His headstone which is in old German spells his name as Hoeck and gives his age at death as 56 jahr That makes his birth year about 1755. * Spelling as Heck on Catherines stone a few of her children are their as Heck and the other have as Hake. But from that time on it has been Hake. There are researchers who have Johannes as the son of Conrad Hage born 1747 who married Marie Clapp in NC. Simply not possible. Unless this Conrad Hage sired him when he as 10-11 yrs old. On Ancestry I have found a Conrad married to Elizabeth Bauman , Conrad Hawk to Sarah Williams and In Strasburg, Lancaster Co. a Conrad Hoke who married Barbara Schenk when they were about 56 years old. So who was his first wife? I also located a Conrad Hage who arrive in Phila in 1755 on ship Friendship. It is possible that he is Johannes father. Would wife and children been listed in the ships records? It might explain why I can't locate a birth or baptism record. Shoot even a will would be nice. In 10 years I have not been able to prove any of these. Any lookups or suggestions are welcome. Melissa **************Ideas to please picky eaters. Watch video on AOL Living.
