Actually the confusion came when the registrar in 1788 transcribed the will of JOHN HENRY MERTZ into Will Book # 2 at Northampton County. He skipped over two of the heirs (Catharine Roerig, widow; and Rosina, intermarried to Jacob Seip; then he omitted "Eve" before "Catharina intermarried to Conrad Repp.") The error got perpetuated when the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Family History Library filmed Will Book # 2, pages 27-28 on which John Henry Mertz's 1786 will was incorrectly transcribed. I believe that microfilm number is # 946457. Having recently received a copy of the 1786 will from the Register of Wills in Northampton County, I am going to post my transcription of the "estate section" of the will on the PABERKS website.
