    2. Reminder - I caution researchers who have yet to discover their immigrant's point of european origin . . the immigrant may well be Swiss and, although they spoke German and had records recorded in German script, be very much a Switzer not a German. I thought mine were German for years based upon a tombstone which said "from Germany" but they were very much Swiss when I found these ancestors in the Faust book on 18th century Swiss emigrants to America, along with fellow passengers leaving Switzerland the same year and arriving in AMerica the same year on outgoing and incoming immigrant lists! Jack Ruple (Swiss is "Roppel") P.S. I've been reading all the great emails from you, Geri, and others . . . maybe someday I will find Hans Jacob Roppel (Ruple, or variant - 1767 emigrant from Switzerland) just as I found my direct ancestor Martin Roppel (Ruple) who instead went to Charleston, South Carolina, another GErman Swiss port in the 18th century.
