    2. Rita et al According to Google, Switzerland dates from at least 1291. In the early 1800's it was conquered by France and left with an in-place government set up by France. Religious differences set Canton against Canton about 1839-48 and civil war broke out briefly in 1850. We've been talking about German families immigrating to Switzerland and then about 1852 immigrating to America. Perhaps social unrest there at that time was a motivating factor along with the attraction of America.
