Now for the problem. I was at the Historical Society of Berks County on Saturday and they don't have the Reading Eagle or any other local paper that would cover this area on time. There is a lapse in the Micro film for the time span. Also checked the Reading Eagle on Google and they have the same problem. Is there a newspaper that would cover the area that may have it or is there any place that may have the Reading Eagle without the lapse in time? Thanks. Could you possibly get any needed information from their church if you know where they attended, or possibly the funeral home. Nancy
Maybe the paper was on strike but maybe the funeral home might have the obituary that never got printed. Were all the papers on strike or just this one? If it was just this one, what other papers may have picked up the slack? I believe the Reading Times was a separate newspaper back in 1945. May be they were not on strike. Reading Library has Times microfilms. Some how it seems unlikely a funeral home would have an obituary when there was no newspaper to print it in. There was of course the Boyertown Times/Democrat whatever. The Hamburg Item. Pottstown Ledger/Mercury. But suspect if he lived and died in Reading and immediate suburbs, and the Times was also on strike, there is no obit. At least most people were reached with a 5 digit phone number. Guy Sue J wrote: > Maybe the paper was on strike but maybe the funeral home might have the obituary that never got printed.
