She became a nurse and eventually began living and traveling with Mary Morton of Bynden Wood near Wernersville. After Mary's death, Minnie hired an innovative architect to build a home in San Diego which has now achieve historic status as the Minnie Gerhard/Thomas Shepherd House. She died in Los Angeles County in 1954. Any details about her life not reflected in census records would be much appreciated.
