This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: BobSerum Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.berks/2240.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I see that the last posting here was 11 years ago, but I have been interested in the parents of Sarah/Sally Stutzman. Sally married David Stutzman and there is plenty of detail about them and their children online. Her sister, Anne Marie, married David's brother Michael Stutzman. Her other siblings appear to have been William K. Kehres (who changed the spelling of the name), born in 1808, Elizabeth Gehres, 1810, Catherine, 1811, and John, 1812. Anne Marie was born in 1817. Their parents are a mystery. One source indicates Johannes Gehres, an immigrant from Germany and Catherine Otto. Another lists George Kehres and Anna Marie Otto. Both of these listings are replicated many times but I find no real evidence and would greatly welcome some clue. The cemetery in Hegins has an old burial of Catherine Derr Gehres and her husband George, with a German spelling of Gehres that may be Goehres. Spelling of the name, Gehres, of course varied a great deal. One census indicates! a woman living with David and Sally whose name is listed as Mary Cares, perhaps the census-taker's version of Gehres, who could have been the widowed mother. A younger woman named Cares is also listed who might have been the wife of George E. Kehres, the son of William K. Kehres. bobserum@yahoo.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Jim: I'm curious if you have any information on a John B White (b. 1858 d. 1912) s/o John and Hannah White from Cumru Twp. He married Esther Halderman (her second marriage?) in 1880 and was the step-father of my G-Grandmother, who was always known in the family as "Sallie Hadley-White". We have a lot of questions about Esther (my G-G-Grandmother) and her first husband, Frank Hadley (b. ? d. ?), that we have not yet answered. Thanks, Glenn gpiper@ptd.net
Researching MILLER families in Berks Co. is a challenge! Have any of y'all researching Valentine MILLER ever seen any relationship between him and "my" MILLER family, i.e., Joseph MILLER b. 1793, d. 11 May 1868 in Windsor Twp., Berks Co., m/1 Catharina --- and m/2 Elizabeth BILLMAN. Joseph's father was George MILLER and his mother was Eva Margaret ---. I know nothing further of George and Eva Margaret. My line goes through Joseph's son, Aaron H. MILLER who m/1 Susanna HECKMAN and d. 1891 in Schuylkill Co. There are at least two contemporary Joseph MILLERs in Windsor Twp. The other (i.e., not mine) Joseph was the son of Rev. Frederick MILLER. Any connections? Judy
My greandmother was Elizabeth Braun and she was born 7/21/1882 to Francis Xavier Braun and Ellen Mahon Braun in NY. She married John Link in NY 1902. Any connections? I would love to hear form you. Todd: Thank you for the suggestion. It is an avenue I have not explored to the fullest extent. It's always nice to receive a suggestion that might prove fruitful! Always worth a try. Everything I have found thus far is left to Dr. Henry Bower and his children. Same for when Jacob Bower's wife Rebecca (Wood) Bower dies. >From what I have seen on family records passed down our family line - yes - George was the oldest. George born in 1784 and Henry born in 1792 which is quite a difference in time. George lived in Philadelphia and died in 1846. I would probably have several counties to search - not just Berks. Thanks again for your suggestion! Pam Pam, Was George the eldest son and received his share of the estate before his father's death? Maybe a parcel of land or cash to buy land, etc. Search the land transcations and deeds. Good Luck, Todd
