    1. Re: [PABERKS] Hagenbuch - Stapleton
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: audianaq41 Surnames: HAGENBUCH and STAPLETON Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.berks/10493.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Barbara was alive in 7/1762 when she and Tobias STEBELTON were sponsors for a child, Ann Barbara, dau of Jacob TRIES[Dries] and Magdalena, at New Bethel, Corner, Eck church. Magdalena was their daughter. Researchers have said that Barbara Hagenbuch was a daughter of Andreas, but I don't see it. Maybe she was a sister of a niece. Andreas and his wife Maria Magdalena Schmutz emig in 1737 on the Charming Nancy. Passenger list did not contain names of any children, but Barbara would have had to be born before they emigrated, and Andreas and his wife were only married in Germany earlier that year...4/26/1737 in Schluchtern Lutheran in Leingarten, Grossgartach, Germany. According to records that I have seen, he was age 22. Here is imigration info from Annette K Burgert's book: Place: Pennsylvania Year: 1737 Primary Immigrant: Hagenbuch, Andreas Accompanying Family Members: Wife Maria M. Schmutz Source Publication: BURGERT, ANNETTE KUNSELMAN. Eighteenth Century Emigrants from German-Speaking Lands to North America. Publications of the Pennsylvania German Society, 16/19. Birdsboro, PA: The Pennsylvania German Society. Vol. 1: The Northern Kraichgau. 1983. 461p. Source Annotation: Date and port of arrival or date and place of naturalization. Span indicates period between last mention of emigrant in country of origin and first mention of his residence in the New World. "Surname, ..." indicates a variation of a surname. Source Page Number: 145 This wife died in 1748 and is buried on the homestead in Albany area. Mathematically, if their daughter Magdalena STEPELTON had a child in 1762 with Jacob DRIES, then she would be born in early to mid 1740s, and working backward her mother Barbara Hagenbush would be born in 1720s. I have not seen a death date for Barbara, but she was not mentioned in Tobias's will dated 7/14/1801, so all we can assume is that she died before he made his will. You are correct about the dates not working! And no one has proven satisfactorally to me that Anna Barbara HAGENBUCH was a daughter of Andreas! I would say further research in Germany is needed! 3. I would like to thank the person who is posting these obituaries for listing the surnames included in them. This makes it very quick and easy to go through them!!! In most obit mailing lists, this is not done and it takes a long time to read through their obits......very time consuming. 3. Kat, You cannot print from the site of the Reading Eagle Archives. They used to have an option if you paid a fee they would send a printable copy, but I don't know if that is there or not anymore. If you have Windows 7.0 or higher you can use the "Snipping tool" to capture the article you want and save it to your hard drive. You can print it from a photo program as a jpg file or import it to a Word processing program and print it as a document. Older versions of Windows need to use the PrintScreen option to capture the whole screen and save it. You can then import that image to a photo program or document and use the utility tools in the program to crop to the part you want. Betty

    2. Michelle Fegley Wahrenberger
    3. Hi, My family is all from Berks County so I never search another newspaper but the Reading Eagle and here is a shortcut that goes right to the Eagle and all you have to do is type in the date. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=ZuSUVyMx-TgC&dat=19501012&b_mode=2&hl= en. I do a lot of searching for obits and this makes it quick to get to the right dates. Also I noticed that obits are located in the same area of the paper in different time frames, most of the time Before 1900 page 1. 1920-1931 page 2 1933-1960 about the 4th page from the back after 1960 something there is an index on the front page. These locations are not true for every edition. Michelle in Ohio
