The heirs were: wife Catharine, sons William, John and Samuel; daughters: Anna, Rachel, Catharine and Caroline; granddaughters Sarah Adam (parents not named) and Sarah Weidner, daughter of son Samuel G. Weidner. On Dec. 12, 1876, sons William, John and Samuel declared in court that their father died Dec. 3, 1876 and filed his will for probate. All three sons were named as executors. The granddaughter Sarah Weidner predeceased Samuel and her share was written out in a codicil to the will in 1869. Distributions were made to the following children and grandchild. 1. son William G. Weidner eldest son 2. son John G. Weidner 3. son Samuel G. Weidner 4. daughter Anna wife of David Fry 5. daughter Rachel widow of Samuel F. A. Ruppert 6. daughter Catharine widow of Thomas Weider 7. Caroline wife of Israel Leinbach 8. granddaughter Sarah (Adam) now wife of Abraham Peter There was a dispute over inheritance due to the son Samuel G. Weidner. Samuel Sr. had advanced him between $2,000 and $3,300 when Samuel G. purchased the farm of Samuel and Lydia Gross on April 2, 1869, for the sum of $4,500. Samuel Sr. marked this advance in the "Family Book" where he kept an account of his income and expenses. There were several who testified at an inquest that Samuel Sr. had said, this would be part of Samuel G.'s inheritance and he would not receive as much as his other children. Among those who testified was Catharine Weidner, widow of Samuel Sr., who testified that she was in her 78th year of her age and had been married to Samuel for 19 years. This suggests strongly that she was a second wife and explains why none of the children were charged with her care for the rest of her life. The estate file did not include a final decision on this matter, but Samuel G. did receive as much money from the estate as his siblings, according the audit of distribution. I will keep my images of the will on file for a while incase anyone out there would like a copy. I did not copy all of the estate images, only the will and distribution. If anyone wants a copy, no need to post it on the list, just send the request off list. There often were notices put in them by the men stating that they were no longer responsible for any bills run up by their ex-wife. Sometimes there was even more information listed, including why they were divorced and naming names. Court records are another place to look because the divorce had to be approved by a judge. This date is based on the fact that he and Maternes are in the 1860 census and he and his 2nd wife, Catharine Lewellen, are in the 1880 census. I would assume the divorce was before Dec 1865 when the 2nd wife first child was born, but have no proof. Where in Berks county would I find divorice records from that period of time? Lebanon County at Prothonary's office copies now at historical society. Some counties do not have Prothonary's which are like a Clerk of Courts if I had been told correctly. Rudolph H. Angstadt and George A. Weidner were second cousins. Briefly the lines are as follows: George A. - John B. & Sarah (Angstadt) - Jacob - Johannes - Tichius Weidner Sarah Angstadt his mother - Gideon & Eliz. Angstadt (2nd cousins) - Peter & Catharine Angstadt (1st cousins) - Peter s/o Adam, Catharine d/o Johannes - Adam & Johannes were both s/o immigrant George Angstadt. Rudolph m. Esther Stimmel and his line is similar to Sarah's above - Jacob K.- Jacob - Peter & Catharine - and back to immigrant family Rudolph was the proprietor of a General Merchandise store in Dryville, PA. See Book of Biographies , Berks Co. 1898., p 251. He took two years of course work at Keystone Normal School in Kutztown and then taught public school for 8 years before buying the store in 1876. In 1792 sold the store and bought a farm in Lobachsville which included a hotel, store and houses. After 3 years he returned to Dryville and purchased the store he formerly owned. He also served as the Postmaster at Dryville. This bio dosen't mention George Weidner as the buyer of the Lobachsville lands. Bob Angstadt
Bob, Thank you for the additional information on Ralph H. Angstadt, it is all part of the story of the Weidners and Angstacts. What was the publication date of the Book of Biographies? Might it have been published before George A. bought Lobachsville? Betty
Hello Bonnie, Good to see you're still on the list. It's also good to see a little activity on the list, it's been quiet, but then the Weidners usually do evoke food for thought and discussion. I couldn't find an obituary for George A. Adam, just the classified ad for his death, published in the Reading Eagle, February 27, 1958. WEIDNER - On the 26ty, inst., George A. Weidner, aged 86 years. Funeral services from the Long Funeral Home, Oley, Saturday at 1:30, with further services in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lobachsville. Interment in adjoining cemetery. Friends may call Friday evening, 7 to 9. (Long). Betty
