    3. Is there any way that Sell could appear in documents as Shell or Steel? If so I would like to compare my family information with you. I am working to complete a Joseph (Joshua) Barlet family. They lived in Loweer Heidelburg Twp from about 1830 until after 1860 when they moved to Reading. 2. Hi Suz, The son of George STLAHLEY and Susanna, Frank STALEY b. 1836 married to Louisa CHRIST moved to OH. The family Bible I mentioned listed their 8 children, the first three were born in PA One son was b. IN another in OH but they must not have stayed long and went on to make their home in Dallas Co. IA. They have spelled the name STALEY eversince. I have a family history web-site that shows their descendants up to the turn of the last century. www.staleyharsch.com Today I found that there was a Johannes Heinrich STALL on the same ship "Francis and Elizabeth" as an Uhllerich STALLY in Sep 1742, possibly tying the two together, so I am going to look into that. Let me know if I can help you find what you are searching for, Sherry -----Original Message----- From: Susan Cruse <deafmtnbear@gmail.com> To: paberks <paberks@rootsweb.com> Sent: Fri, Mar 15, 2013 8:13 am Subject: Re: [PABERKS] Henry STEHLEY and son Christian Hello, o you know if his surname, Stahley, was ever respelled Staley and if at ny time they moved to Ohio? uz On Thu, Mar 14, 2013 at 7:04 PM, <sasharysch@aol.com> wrote: > Hi everyone, To re- introduce my self, I have been searching for parents of George STAHLEY b 1811 PA (and parents born in PA according to census records) he and his wife Susanna KREIDER (her maiden name aquired from the family bible ) were in Penn Twp on the 1860 & 1870 census They have lived all their lives in Berks Co PA but when Susan died, her death was recorded in the Evangelical Luthern Church in Schaefferstown in Lebanon Co. To get to the point, I think I have finally turned the right direction when I found a map of Penn Twp with the name Henry STALEY as the warrantee in Apr 1748. Looking further there is a Christian STEHLEY whose land borders Henry's on the south side. I did find an abstract of the will of a Henry STEHLY probated Jun 13 1798 which lists Christian his only son and Abraham KOENIG a relative as Adm. So now I am trying to find something to tie Christian STEHLEY (whose land patent was returned in 1765) to my George b. 1811. I have read the two books "some decendants of Ulrich STEHLEY" and the "Early settlers of Old Mount Airy Wythe Co VA" The naming patterns and the areas run really close but haven't found any ties yet, I do think this Henry STEHLY could very well be a brother to Ulrich though. I am amazed at the wealth of information that is available on line now, can some tell me "If I order the land records from the PA State archives, are they going to give me anymore information than what the maps online show? 3. First, here is a link to some info on South Mountain hospital: http://www.asylumprojects.org/index.php?title=South_Mountain_Restoration_Center. I had a similar situation with a relative in a sanitarium and found them listed in the census as an "inmate." Have you searched the 1930 and 1940 censuses? Also, you can check state records for a death certificate. For Pennsylvania the death records are indexed from 1906 to 1960. It is not straightforward, as you need a registration number, which itself is indexed year-by-year. Therefore, if you do not know the year of death you must access each year separately. This info is available at http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=1085804&mode=2. Additionally, many sanitariums had cemeteries on site. Have you checked out this possibility? 3. Mary Ann, Wikpedia has a page on the Hamburg Tuberculosis Hospital, Berks County, PA http://www.asylumprojects.org/index.php?title=Hamburg_Tuberculosis_Sanatorium It appears it closed in 1956, so if your uncle died in that hospital he died between 1930 and 1956. You might want to look up his death certificate in the PA Dept. of Health death index. http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=1085804&mode=2 The site is a bit of a chore to get through, but they do have a record of all deaths in PA between 1906 and 1962. 3. Mary Ann, You might want to read the article posted at the Berks County Historical Society site about the sanatoriums on South Mountain in Berks. "South Mountain Resorts" a.k.a. sanatoriums. http://berkshistory.org/articles/southmountain.html Your South Mountain reference may be referring to the mountain range extending south and southwest from the Lehigh Valley to the Lebaon Valley. It's been known by other names, one being the Reading Hills. South Mountain is a cluster of peaks in Berks, Lancaster and Lebanon. The low peaks passes east of Reading. Betty

    3. Google stopped scanning obits in 2009/2010. I've been saving for Berks Genealogical Society since 2002. Although believe I've missed a few. Discovered too late the Reading Eagle changes what they list on line, pretty much all day long, so have to check daily obits later in day, not first thing in morning. However what follows is not as printed in paper. I delete out details on viewing, such as day and time. And delete some of the address on where to send donations. The important details are untouched. If no mention of where buried, such as this obit, it's because obit didn't say. The little announcements printed in paper that often do mention burial place are not on line. Guy *Leroy F. Livinghouse Jr.* LeRoy F. Livinghouse Jr., 71, of Birdsboro passed away at his residence on February 7, 2012. He was born April 15, 1940 in Reading the son of the late LeRoy F.
