The identity of his father seems to elude me at every turn. Still, Benjamin has to be in it somewhere. Here's what I know of Benjamin F Keenen's birth: it's been said that he was born 27 Dec 1837 in Reading. His death record says his mother was a Mary Horton (it's not known if Horton was her maiden name or married name, if she married again). It's assumed Benjamin's father died early on, which would account for him living with a family in Salisbury Twp, Lanc Co in 1860. The Hoas family, there, Benjamin's last name is spelled Kenon. Eventually, it was spelled a Keenen, which was my grandmother's and her father's surname. He may have been living elsewhere in 1850, whre, I have no ida, but he seems to appear for the first time in 1860. I would be very very grateful if someone could look in that database and see if he's there. I don't have the means to get to the Berks Co His Soc myself, which is why I asked. There is a Benga Keen! an in Reading in 1880, but that's obiously not the same man, but quite possibly an uncle. My Benjamin did die 23 Mar 1918 in Lanc. I have his obituary and location of his burial, but neither one lists his father or is of any help in determining who it is. But I can only speculate. A church record may exist, but it would help to know which church this family was affiliated with. You might try searching the 1850 Census for Benjamin Keenan/Keenen to find the family that he was living with. If Benjamin lived past 1906, you may be able to find his parents names on a Death Record, available from the PA Dept. of Health, Div. of Vital Records. The Berks Reg. of Wills website has an index of birth and death records online, but from my experience, the records in that office don't always identify the parents of the deceased. You can search the index here: http://www.co.berks.pa.us/rwills/s/RegMain.htm Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Can anyone tell me where or how to get one? Achurch perhaps or a birth index in the county courthouse going back to 1837? I need help in this area. I'm from Lancaster, ut don't want to make the trip if the courthouse doesn't have anything or the churches up there don't have any records going that far back. Surname I'm researching or looking for in those records would be Keenan/Keenen and other spellings. This ncestor was given the name Benjamin, and his mother was a Mary (possibly Mary Horton). Hi, I just found the parents of my ancestor Daniel Becker (Dec 21 1797-Nov 18 1859 Alsace Twp.) to be Simson Becker and unknown Messerschmidt in Morton Montgomey's book on line. I was wondering if anyone had any info on them. I could not find them in the indexes of any census 1790-1830 nor in the will index for Berks County. I have info on Daniel family and forward need info going back. Thanks, Michelle in OH
