I have had this happen with a couple of my ancesters. One census they were from one location and the next another. Also the Berks County Historical Society does not have all of there church records in the database, so you might have to make a trip there to help you. There is also a Berks Genealogical Society located on the 4th floor of the Google Works on Washington St. www.berksgenes.org Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Patty, I don't know about Lehigh County. They do have a web site at http://www.lehighcounty.org/ but Berks is kind of unique with their index on line. There is a Rootsweb Lehigh County page where you might find additional information http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~palehigh/ Betty
Diana says in part, ----- Original Message ----- From: "Diana Quinones" <audianaq@msn.com> To: "jdroppel" <jdroppel@aristotle.net>; "PABerks" <paberks@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 23, 2008 2:20 AM Subject: [PABERKS] lookup RABBOLD/var > There is a remark [Veinau, "Schwaebish Hall" May 18, 1753] I am not sure > what that means - maybe when he emigrated? > audianaq@msn.com The remark shown above is confusing. Johann Jacob Rappoldt arrived in America on 11 Aug 1750. He married Anna Maria Margaretha Meiser on 18 May 1753. Following is an excerpt from my book "A REED BY MANY OTHER NAMES', Volume Three, a copy of which may be seen at the Berks County Historical Society. John Jacob was born in Veinau near Schwaebisch Hall, Wuerttemberg, Germany, according to his birth record which I got from a professional genealogist in Schwaebisch Hall, who found it in Tuengenthal Evangelical Parish. The record is so hard to read that a supplement was added on the other side to tell us what is written there. This translates thus: "Supplement to the copy on the other side: John Jacob, Georg Michael Rappolt, house companion of Veinau, and Magdalena, conjugal housewife, legitimate daughter (sic) was born on 12 Feb (1726): about 6 A. M., baptized the same day, sponsored by John Jacob Kochendoerfer, a (?) captain of Veinau and Johann Georg Graeter. a (?) subject of Veinau." There is a note which says that "daughter" must be a slip of the pen and that it should read "son". A second note says that a better copy cannot be made, and that the book will be restored. A house companion was a poor man who owned no real estate or house and who, after the death of his parents, lived with his wife and children in the house of a brother or a married sister, or a brother or a sister of his wife. He earned his daily bread by occasional day-laborer work, by assisting on farms, or by a trade. Schwaebisch Hall, as you must spell it if you don't have an umlaut on your typewriter, is northeast of Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Wuerttemberg. According to the tourist guide books, it is well worth visiting if you should decide to tour Germany. Richard Emlin Reed Wesley Chapel, FL
This is most helpful information from Betty. In an earlier email she suggested going to the Berks register of wills website http://www.co.berks.pa.us/rwills/s/RegMain.htm which has an alpha index of all its wills on file since the 18th century. Then, without a trip to Reading, you can pay a fee to read the very will you're interested in! Betty, do you know if Lehigh County has a similar website and estate look-up service? Thank you, Betty, for reminding us of this wonderful source! Patty in Nashville ************** Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. Patty, You might not have to wait for your trip to Reading. The Berks County Register of Wills does look ups and will send you a copy of the will at a fee per page rate. You can check out their web site at http://www.co.berks.pa.us/rwills/cwp/view.asp?a=2148&Q=482800&rwillsNav=| If you sent for a copy of the estate file you would know in advance if the estate file in question would pertain to your ancestor. I decided to go over my notes and found this that Diane sent to me from Smoke Church Records, part 1 of 'Collected Church Records of Berks Co', Rice and Dellock, pub 1/1995 and wonder if anyone can expand on the information. This is most likely where the July 14, 1816, information for the Philip KLINE I am researching came from. Philip KLEIN, s/o Benjamin KLEIN and Sarah, born 7/14/1816, bp 7/26/1816 spons: Philip KLEIN and wf Elisabeth, grandparents. Another researcher lists Philip's parents as Benjamin Kline and Sara Batz. Grandparents are probably the Philip Kline and Elisabeth (Adams) Kline both buried at Old Cemetery Altalaha, Tulphocken Twp. Berks Co. Is there any way to get a copy of these records from St. Paul's Smoke Union Church, Tulpehocken Twp. Berks Co., PA? Thank you. Elaine Sharp Sacramento CA
I have asked this before and thought I might try again. A couple of people in their family file have a Philip Kline b. Jul. 14, 1816, Berks, County. Having such a specific date, I am trying to find out where they got this information from as it would help me greatly with this brick wall on the Philip Kline b. ca 1816 research I am doing This family lived in Hamburg/Windsor in 1840 census, his first son Alfred b. 1839 is listed as being born Hamburg, Berks County on his death record. Not sure, using census records, which Philip Kline he would be from other of areas Berks County before that date. This family might have been Lutheran. They are living in Philadelphia 1850-1860 censuses when our Philip died, his wife is listed as widow in of Philip in Philadelphia 1860 directory records and I have contacted a researcher in Philadelphia area trying to find his death/burial records there. Any help with this July 14, 1816 Berks County Philip Kline date is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Elaine Sharp Sacramento CA

Does anyone have information concerning two marriages by Rev. Tobias Wagner? Anna Maria CHRIST daughter of John George CHRIST of the Northkill married George Wagner and Maria Catharine CHRIST daughter of John George CHRIST of the Northkill married Peter Miller. I believe these two sisters were daughters of the George Christ who came with Weiser. It is too early for them to be John George and Kantner's daughters. Plus all of his daughters are accounted.
