You can get library cards from out of state or county, for example, at a small price, and then you can access HQ from home using your library card. Ancestry - library seems to be an in-library use website only. You can contact the Citrus County library in Inverness, FL and get a card from them. I know they have HQ. Ohio used to have a State Library (before budget cuts) and they had a HeritageQuest subscription that any state resident could use after signing up. But it is now closed but other states might still have state libraries that can be accessed by their residents. Have to check your own state. Also I got a free month subscription to Ancestry once with the purchase of a new version of Family Tree Maker. Michelle in OH

we don't pay for libraries out here in Calif. where i live, in Silicon Valley/San Jose/Santa Clara, even if we live outside the borders of whatever entity is supporting the library - i have cards for various nearby city libraries and the county library - if you make it to Santa Clara (we have nice winters out here . . . ), go into the very genealogist-friendly city library and get a card, and you will then be able to use Heritage Quest from home i love belonging to this list - and i visited my sister in Berks County (Womelsdorf) this summer and found it lovely - send me some whoopie pies (peppermint filling would be good this time of year . . . )! Merry Christmas b (betsy shafer nee betsy clements collins)(a Brecht/Bright descendant) Cupertino, CA
Our local libary does not charge a membership fee (as the taxes from our township support the library). . the only ones who have to pay any type of fee are those who live outside the township. There is NO charge to use Heritage Quest. If you can locate a library that subscribes to Heritage Quest, then you CAN access the HQ files from your home at no charge. All you have to pay is the actual library's membership fees. . Heritage Quest can only be accessed through local libraries, but it is a wonderful source of information. Marlene, I live in PA and I got an "out-of-town" membership to a library in Rutland, Vermont which allowed remote access to Heritage as long as you paid your annual dues to the library. Don't know if they still have Heritage on-line, but there were other libraries who offered the same. The annual dues was something like $30 and was well worth the investment for the information Heritage has. Hi Marlene, I'm in Texas, so it's the state that supports the program of HeritageQuest to the local Librarys. It is wonderful to have at your finger tips at home, and has really helps me research all my family. Don't think this is a membership type program like Ancestry.com. Don't know where in PA you are living, but if you are close to Reading, I would check with the local Genealogy societies and see if they could help you. I loved researtch work in Reading, PA, so much to find on your families. Also another site that helps, is Find A Grave, more people are putting on family information and even pictures that are wonderful to find. Sure hope you can find a way to get HertiageQuest at home. It says his last residence was 1062 North 10th Street, which is the same residence I found him in the 1910 census, where he, Delila and Edward age 21 were living. The funeral article does not identify his survivors...other than to say he received flowers from son Edward and wife; among others. Betty Burdan
