Looking for Peter Schmick/Schmeck/Smeck prior to 1850.  His two sons (John and Theodore) are working for James Moyer in Hamburg, PA on the  1850 census  but Peter and Catherine and youngest son are living in Danville, PA.  According to Biographical Sketches of Leading Citizens of the Seventeenth Congressional District Peter Schmick was one of the pioneer families of the Hamburg area.  He was a blacksmith.  I am unable to locate him on the 1840 census.
