There are two Jennie Mohr's in Saucon Twp, Lehigh County in the 1880 Census who meet your age criteria. I was not able to find a Minnie or Jennie Kemp married to an Austin Kemp in the 1910 Census. So, if you know who Jennie's Parents were, this will help further. D. Zweizig sponsors: "die Eltern" Anyone interested? I found this when I was looking for one similar to the one I have for my great grandmother, Seline Kaline Miller from 1861. Mine is matted and professionally framed under glass, and has been repaired from being folded and kept in the family bible for way too long, I suppose. I suspect that my great grandmother water colored it in as a child. Not the neatest job, though. The certificate was printed in Reading, Pa. by Karl (Charles) Kessler. There are a number of other ones on ebay, too. Asking prices seem to be all over the map. Lynn K. This is an update on what I have found so far, with the much appreciated help of Diana Quinones. As you may recall, I seem to lose the Jacob HILL family in Windsor Township after the death of Jacob HILL in 1797. The next Jacob HILL does not appear until 1820. I noted that in the Guardianship request of 1803 it appears that the widow, Hannah has married someone named Weigly. That name, written that way, does not appear in the 1800 or 1810 Windsor Township census. There was the suggestion from Lee Corbit that the name may appear as FEGELY, but I am not so certain now, even though a John Fegely does appear in the 1800 Windsor census, and there are a number of children. It is Diana's theory that the WEIGLY name does appear in both the 1800 and the 1810 Windsor Township census: in the 1800 census as John WYKEL and in the 1810 census as John WEICKLE. Her thoughts are the following: "WEICKLE - think of it as 'Wicklee'. G and K are often interchanged in the surnames. GLY could sound like KLEE!" And there are enough children in both censuses to account for a combined family. This could be where the HILL family is "hiding" in Windsor Township until the son, Jacob comes of age in the 1820 census. Lynn K. The search engine at the Reading Eagle archives is an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) search. Sometimes the various font images are difficult for it to read. I have often had the same experience you did and took care of it the same way. As long as you know the date, you can browse. I do that for many obituaries that do not come up as a search result. Several days ago I was searching the archives of the Reading Eagle and noted the death of Katie Ann Gauker in Schuylkill Co. Fortunately, I also noted the date so I could go back to the short article--I didn't have time to go through the Print Screen routine at that time. However, when I went back to copy it, I could not bring it up. Using the Advanced Archives search, I used every search term that was relevant-- the surname, her first name, her husband's name, the location (Cressona), etc., etc. I narrowed and then expanded the dates. I tried just Gauker, just Katie Ann, just Cressona, etc., etc. Nothing. I've used the Google News Archives quite a bit but had not experienced a problem like that. Anyone have an explanation? Finally, I went into the browse mode and went to the issue of the Reading Eagle for the date I had noted and there it was. I have no idea of the cause of the problem, but I would caution y'all not to give up if you can't find an article that "should" be there. You may have to browse entire issues. The basic program is about 1.5 mb. plus the plugins As for identifying newspaper Clipping, at the top of the first part of the clipping, I include some space above the article. After I have reassembled the article I insert the identification in the space. I insert either an image with the newspaper identification or place the text above the viewer with the newspaper identification. As for the OCR, it is not part of the standard plugin file. It can be accessed from the Irfanview plugin page, or downloaded at http://irfanview.info/plugins/kadmos/ I have been using it for about a year, and it caused no problems to the system. I started saving my clippings as image files, but became frustrated when trying to navigate through them. I found that the PDF files were much easier to use, especially when zooming to read the fine print. With PDF files you can zoom the page or a section of the page. In the latest version of the free Adobe Reader X, you can now added comments to the PDF file with the reader. If you do not have a PDF printer there are many available. I use two PDF Creator from Sourceforge saving and joining PDF files, and CutePDFwriter for simple printing. Both are free and can be found on Google. I developed the habit of zooming in on the obit or whatever I want to copy and then aligning it right under the the Reading Eagle edition date in the upper left. I then do a new "Snip" and crop what I want and include the date of the edition. The only problem I've encountered with this approach is when, for whatever reason, there are more than one edition included under one date, which happens occasionally. I then include the actual publication date within the file name that I use to save the image with. Sometimes, depending on where the article is positioned on the original page, it's a challenge to position it directly under the edition date. I then get it as close as I can and still crop the snipped article to include the date. Having the date included in the image is most helpful. Once you have the section snipped, you can "Save as" a .tiff file. I! have Irfanview loaded as my default image viewer, but didn't realize that it had an OCR feature. That will come in handy whenever I want to transcribe an obit to include in my PAF file. I don't like to add image files because it seems to bog down the program. The panoramic stitching feature sounds interesting too. I've been combining sectional snips using Photoshop, which does a nice job, but I may give Irfanview a try to see if it's any easier.
