You will need to know the day of death, or day of burial. Or you can try the Reading Eagle archives that is still on line http://news.google.com/newspapers Choose the Reading Eagle and once there type in the year to search and choose the month. If you don't have a date of death you may have to search every issue in January of that year (1972), but if you really want to find the obituary it's a small price to pay. 3. Moses JONES was grandson, a son of Andrew JONES and wife Dorothy GOUCHER who married at St Gabriel's Church, Douglassville, Berks Co on 10/8/1736, by publishing. [Source: Berks Co Church Records of 18th Censury, F Edward Wright, pub 2000, page 8.]  Moses was born 4/21/1739, according to St Gabriel's church records, [p 11 of above named source]. (The church was originally Swedish Lutheran but became Episcopal in 1800.) Andrew JONES was son of  Mans Jonasson and his wife Ingeborg Lycon who married c1690 in Philadelphia Co area.  He died c1727 in Amity, then Philadelphia County, only became Berks Co as of 1752. I had found this item: "Original Settlements on the Delaware" by Benjamin Ferris: "The following is a "List of the Swedish families residing in New Sweden  in 1693, with the number of individuals in each family".  Some of the  names are evidently Dutch (and Finnish), as Van der Weer, Starke and  Meyer.  These were probably reckoned as Swedes on account of their  descent from them on the female side, and from having adopted the  language and customs of that people.  The list is dated 1693.  It was  probably made out in  the spring of that year, and sent to Sweden with  the interesting letter written by Charles Springer, and signed by thirty  of the principal men in the colony, giving an account of their situation  and soliciting the means of religious instruction.  That letter was  dated the 31st of May, 1693." Heads of families      Persons Mans Jonsson            6 Will Abstract: JONES, MOUNS. Amity, Co. of Philadelphia. Yeoman.  March 29, 1727/8. May 5, 1727. E.41.  Wife: Jugabo [Ingeborg]. Children: Peter, Jonahs, Andrew.  Exec: Peter and Jonahs Jones.  Wit: John Bell, David Harry (his mark), James Burroughs.  Info on his wife: "Ingeborg Laican, born c. 1670 married Måns Jonasson [Mounce Jones], son of Jonas Nilsson, about 1690. The couple became the first Swedish settlers at Manatawney (Douglassville) in Berks County. Their children included: Margaret, born 1691, who married Marcus Huling; Peter, born 1693, who married Elisabeth [parents unknown]; Christina, born 1696; Jonas, born 1698, who married Maria Knecht; Andrew, born c. 1700, who married Dorothy Goucher; and Magdalena, who married Andrew Bird."  I don't see a will abstract for Andrew JONES in Berks Co or Philadelphia Co Wills 1752-1800.  Perhaps he died in another area - maybe in NC since Moses was a soldier there? There is a article about Jonas Nilson by Dr. Peter Stebbins Craig at http://www.colonialswedes.org/Forefathers/Nilsson.html Mouns is child 4. 4.Måns Jonasson, born 1663, married Ingeborg Lycon, daughter of Peter Nilsson Lycon, c. 1690. After building a stone house at Aronameck (the core of the present Bartram's Gardens mansion), they moved in 1704 to Manatawney (Douglasville) in Amity township, Berks County, where the Mouns Jones house still stands in his honor. 3. David Helfrich, if you are out there, could you please be in touch. We corresponded regarding the Sassamanhausen Family Burial Ground in Berks some years ago. I have new information on the burial ground and thought you would be interested. For all Berks subscribers, the Sassamanhausen BG is located in Maxatwany Township, Berks County, and is one of the hundreds of family burial grounds scattered on farmland throughout the county. The Sassamanhausen, like many others, is in dire need of work to restore, preserve and maintain it. For information on work being done on these burial grounds, you can visit the Berks County Association for Graveyard Preservation (BGAGP) at http://bcagp.berkshistory.org/ or on Facebook. Some of these burial grounds can be found at Find-A-Grave. Most of them go by the family name of the folks who set aside the burial grounds for use by their families, so search for your surnames in Berks County. Some are listed in the vast amount of information posted to Berks County page at http://berks.pa-roots.com/ Betty Burdan
