    3. I am deeply saddened by what happened at Aulenbach. I live in Ohio and we had a bad wind storm last spring and a cemetery with many trees was badly hit and many trees lost large limbs which destroyed a lot of tombstones as well. So nature can destroy as well as man. Anyway one thing I am doing is I am photographing an entire cemetery, and putting the photos on FindAGrave.com. Perhaps some of you could help, by spending a spare hour in a cemetery and photographing part of it and uploading the photos on Find A Grave. I have found some of my ancestors burial places from Find A Grave. There are people around the country and internationally who would benefit from this. I have received 2 international thank yous, for my effort. I have photographed almost all of Good Shepherd I may have missed some plus they are adding regularly. I currently have most of the back sections of Alsace Cemetery photographed. I am currently putting on the last section in the back. I still have to photograph the old section beside Grace Alsace Church. I will do this probably in March on my next visit. Michelle in Ohio

    3. Unfortunately this thing is quite common as the country becomes more divided and the lack of respect for others outside their group declines, It will become the more prevalent in the future as more and more people have no idea who there fathers, let alone forefathers, were Guns get blamed in shootings because the liberals say teaching the Ten Commandments with "Thou shall not kill" violate the separation of Church and State. 3. Hi list, This is dastardly and sickening. I do not know if I have any family or ancestry in this cemetery, but I do in other cemeteries in Berks County. I have seen how some cemeteries have been treated by vandels. I have also seen how property owners plow up burial areas or put roads on top of old burial sites. Most of which was not removed to a new site especially if family does not have the money or know about it. Some of my ancestry I will never know because of that. Some cemeteries I cannot get to on private property and all grown over. It is a shame that we have any of these problem. The only thing is helping the volunteers or donating money for your own buried family or just making a donation to help. I hope the 300 tombstones can be repaired. Also, do you think someone knew about the gifts at the church, since that is what was stollen? Thanks for letting us know. ----- Original Message ----- From: "RAY FRIESS" <rayfrijr@msn.com> To: <paberks@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, December 28, 2012 9:20 PM Subject: Re: [PABERKS] Terrible act > I live in Utah and twice have been back to Berks County to visit spots > where my ancestors lived and are now resting in peace, including Aulenbach > Cemetery. 2. There is no acceptable reason or excuse for cemetery vandalism. I have Berks Co ancestors on my mother's side going back before the Revolutionary War. Our ancestors fought to make this country free, even for those who exercise poor judgement, and i hope those responsible understand that. Frank T. 2. Barron Weand
    3. Reading death records show Kate Shuler died 13 Sept 1889. There are several Shuler genealogies on Ancestry.com. Indications are that John Shuler was remarried to Sarah Rebecca Radar on 17 Jan 1891 and subsequently had 7 children with her. John (1861-1935) appears to be buried at Aulenbach's cemetery in Reading. Hope this helps. Still plugging away with my family tree and I am looking for any information in reference to Kate Strause. I have very little information about her other than she married John L. Shuler and had 2 children with him David Frankin Shuler (b.28 Nov 1886) and Ella L. Shuler (b. Mar 1888). John remarried in Sept 1889 so I assume Kate passed before then.

    3. Hi Keith: Thank you so much for your suggestions. Years back I did have Ancestry and enjoyed it very much. But now I am no longer employed so I cannot. I know with different people's ethnic origin the way different people pronounced and spelled names back then and even now is sometimes very humorous. So when I post I try to list a few ways that I have fond the name spelled. Grant can be Graint, Grand, Greaend, Grantz, Grund, Grunt, and the list goes on and on. One was even Landt. That was fun! I have been searching this family for over 30 years. It has been a wonderful journey. As a child my grandfather was a dentist and his office was in his home. I spent a lot of quality time with him and he always made time for me when I visited even while he was having office hours. I got to meet all his patients. He made me his assistant when I was very young. He loved searching his roots and as a thank you to him I have been trying to find some of the people that he could not. I am getting up there in age and cannot travel the way I used to or walk the cemeteries so I am trying to find these elusive Grants as best I can. I am trying any possible connection I can think of so I thought maybe Barlet could be Bartolet. I am going to try family search again and definitely Berks Deeds. I thank you so much for that idea. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy and Healthy 2013. Enjoy. There are many lines of the Barlet family in Berks county, most all decendants of Paul b:1714, Conrad and Hans Wolf Barlet. 3. if you can find a Family History Center in an LDS (Mormon) church building near you (go into familysearch.org and search for a Family History Center [FHC] using your zip code or something of the sort) you can use Ancestry.com and Fold3 and some other things for free on their computers . . . ask the workers which icon you need to use, and then click on "Premium Sites" (after the holidays . . . )(they are likely closed now) b On Wed, Dec 26, 2012 at 8:49 PM, <paberks-request@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > If you are not, you should go to FamilySearch.org, and search there. > Like Ancestry there are many hits on the Grant Family. While there apparently were some strong discussion at that time the good thing for us is that the documents in the file list all of the children of Sebastian Barlet their wives and where they were living at the time of the settlement. It also list the children of Sebastian children One of the pieces of information (I am still working on the 100 pages) is that Sebastian daughter Susan Barlet lived in Ohio with her husband John Miller. John Miller and Susan Barlet are buried in the Stephenson Family-Sugar Grove-Sugar Ridge cemetery about 0.7 miles from the Ohio Line. There is also information on my ancestor Joseph (Joshua) Barlet. Contact me if you would like further information about this document, Joseph (Joshua)Barlet, and the Daniel Barlet Sr. Keith_Nuttle sbcglobal.net Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hi Keith and List: Trying to get information on my ggrandfather Bartlet or Bartolette Grant. He was born 5/1817 to John Grant/Graend and wife Maria in Berks Co. Pa. Do you have any Grant/Graends in your line. I am 64 years old and have been trying to get information on My Grant family for a long time. I cannot find information on John and Maria Grant, Maria's maiden name, The parents and grandparents of John Grant. When did they come from, why was my gggrandfather named Bartolet Grant. Rumor has it he was raised by Bartlets so that further makes me think there is a connection with the families. Other names in my line are: Drumhellers, Erby. Fry, Fuchs, Geiger, Haag, Knab, Knause, Krebs, Leib, Miller/ Mock. Rodermel. Stapleton, Would love to know if there are any Grants in your Bartlet line. Thanks so much Sally Scott in Newton, NJ scott1@embarqmail.com -----Original Message----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, December 26, 2012 2:43 PM To: PABERKS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PABERKS] Barlet, Quillman, Schmehl This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. This is not a pop in and get your information project. There are over 100 pages of records. 1. [PABERKS] TAX ROLLS
    2. Bob
    3. I am working on my Berks and Cumberland lines. To sort these out it would be extremely helpful to know when and how the tax rolls were made up and how the process worked. While my interest is in the 1760's, all I have found with any dates or procedures are some 1770's Bedford County tax records, it appears that a list of names of all males and and taxes due was made up about the first of the year (probably from the prior roll) and then the Collector was sent out with a copy and instructions to notify each person listed of how much they had been assessed and where and when they could appeal this assessment and to return with any additions by the date of the appeal. The appeals date seems to be before spring planting and, presumably the payment date would have been after the harvest in the fall. Most folks are delighted just to find an ancestor on a list, but I need to understand how all this was done to tell if the name is really mine. Thanks, Bob

She is not. Since my inquiry, with a lot of searching, hunches, and luck, I have found that my grandmother, Inez, and her sister, Kathleen, were born in Maryland of Charles E. McCord and Unity Stayton. Their father, Charles, came from Ireland. I am now faced with the common dilemma of an Irish immigrant ancestor with a most common Irish name. The Staytons are a well-established Maryland family but I have been unable to locate any family historian who can tell me anything about Unity.
