    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: lai1219 Surnames: Miller Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.berks/10490/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Looking for information related to, particularly the parents of, Valentine Miller of Maidencreek Twp/Windsor Twp in Berks Co. Will was probated 1793. May have attended Zion Windsor Castle Church (now in Perry Twp.) Will lists: wife, Elizabeth four sons, John, Isaac, Abraham, William nine daughters, Margaret, Catharine, Elizabeth, Maria, Rosina, Susana, Hanna, Esther, Sara Valentine Miller appears in a 1768 tax list for Windsor Township, indicating he was over the age of 21. If Valentine was at least 21 years old in 1768, this would give him a date of birth before or about 1747. Valentine then appears on tax lists for 1779-1781, 1783, 1786, and 1789 in neighboring Maidencreek Township. Presently Perry Township lies between Windsor and Maidencreek, but Perry was formed in 1852 from part of Windsor Township. Valentine's son, Isaac, and daughter in law were buried at Zion Windsor Castle Church, now located in Perry Township, further supporting that this family lived near the border between Maidencreek and Windsor. Valentine also appears in the 1790 census in Maidencreek Township. He is listed with 2 males over 16, 1 male under age 16, and 9 females. The estate of Valentine Miller, cordwainer of Maidencreek Township, was probated in 1793. His will was written 19 December 1792. Letters Testamentary were granted to John Reeser, the executor, on 15 February 1793. This indicates a death date between 19 December 1792 and 15 February 1793. Some trees originate in the 1600’s. The information is on my new website www.herdorf2allentown.info. If anyone has an ancestor with one of the surnames noted above, or suspects that their ancestor was born in Herdorf area, I am happy to share the information that I have. In return, I would ask that you share what you know about your ancestors and their descendants. Joel Hoffner, Bethlehem, PA

Some made fine hosiery that shipped all over the US! Also, a series of books, The Passing Scene, have been published by George M. Meiser, IX of the Berks Co Hist Soc, which contain old photos from around the county. You could browse thru some 16 vols to see if photos of the mills and any of your kin are in any of them. 1. [PABERKS] 1795 court case, Berks County
    2. Diana Lehman
    3. Hello, I plan a research trip to Reading in the next few weeks during which I would like to locate the original court records for a case described in Volume I of "Reports of Cases Adjudged in the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania..." by Hon. Jasper Yeates, published 1871, pages 440-442. This case was for ejectment from land in Amity Township, with the plaintiff listed as Timothy Peaceable, lessee of Benjamin Bioren, vs. Jacob Keep. The reported appeal, heard at the January 1795 Supreme Court Session, was for a case originally tried before Supreme Court Justice Smith at the assizes session at Reading in May 1795 and includes testimony about incidents and disputes dating back to 1732. My goal is to locate the original records of the May 1795 assizes case and any other court records including depositions, deeds, etc. related to the dispute. Is the Berks County Courthouse likely to have these records in its archives, and if so, how do I go about requesting access to them? Thank you for any research advice you can provide, Diana Lehman

    3. I have been to Reading twice to do research. You can either call or go to the courthouse and tell themwhat you are looking for and request the files. Chances are they are archived off site, the ones I wanted tosee were, and they will call over to the archives and have them sent over to the courthouse. It is best to make contact the day before you would plan on looking at the file because usually it takes a dayto get them over to the courthouse from the archives. They usually only call the archives once or twice a dayto give them a list of what has been requested. > From: dclehman@rcn.com > To: PABERKS@rootsweb.com > Date: Sat, 26 Jan 2013 10:16:22 -0500 > Subject: [PABERKS] 1795 court case, Berks County > > Hello, > > > > I plan a research trip to Reading in the next few weeks during which I would > like to locate the original court records for a case described in Volume I > of "Reports of Cases Adjudged in the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania..." by > Hon. 2. Are you a Wamsher researcher? Do you have any information on Wamsher intermarrying with Blands? "Please be careful about identifying Barbara, wife of Johannes Fehr/Fair as Barbara "Wamsher." There is no proof that was her surname. The person appointed administrator of her estate was William Wamsher [spelling varies] called "a friend and relative" of Barbara. Although he is identified as a relative, that does not mean he is her brother or nephew. There is evidence of a Barbara Wamsher in a nearby county but thus far there is no hard proof (or at least any of which I am aware!) that this is the same Barbara who was the wife of Johannes Fair. Barbara could have been the sister of William Wamsher's wife, etc., etc."
