Author: mfalconer33 Surnames: Schlegel, Faust, Keim Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.berks/9844/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have my lineage pretty well traced, but I'm looking to hook up two grandmothers who may be first cousins, Susanna Keim Schlegel and Leah Schlegel. I need help in tracing Leah Schlegel. Susanna Keim Schlegel (1808-1869) is the daughter of Heinrich Shlegel (1779-1860) and he is the son of Johan Christian Schlegel (Jr) 1743-1823). Susanna's mother is Esther Keim (1771-1843), daughter of Jacob DeTurk Keim (1724-1799). The other presumed cousin is Leah Schlegel (b.? d. 1828) married to Daniel Faust (1800-1863). Her father MAY be Johannes Conrad Schlegel but I know nothing about him or about her mother. Any help in tracing the ancestors of Leah Schlegel, probably born around 1800 /- 5 year, died about 1828, probably in childbirth, would be greatly appreciated. I had conflicting information about Michael Braun (no dob) son of Frederick Braun (1739) and Louisa. I had his wife as Hannah or Hanna Knorr or Catherine Scherry. I have determined since that neither one is correct. Last night I spent time in both Ancestry and Google. There are many Braun lines in Berks County. One of them is descended from a Johan Phillip who was born 1697 in Hesse, Germany. He immigrated in the 1720's and had a large posterity including a Michael born 3 Mar 1790 who married Hanna Maria Knorr 4 Dec 1810 in Trinity Church, Tulpehocken. This family may be Catholic as I have found many records for Braun/Browns with similiar given names to our family in Catholic church records. Michael Braun married to Catherine or Maria Catherine Scherry (Scherer) was a son of Michael Braun who was the son of a Johan Jost Braun and was in the Northumberland Twp (My notes are bad--Nor. .something). The end result is that I am going to leave our Michael Braun unattached! now until I can find something definitive and hopefully from the Longswamp Twp. I will go into the WPA cemetery records for that area and see what I can find. If you have any confirming data for Michael's wife and children, or find anything, or know if he moved to another area, let me know. All we know for sure (or all I know for sure) is that he was mentioned in Frederick's will. Thanks and have a great weekend coming up--Perhaps you are a football fan?? 3. Is the birth date of Daniel wrong? Here's what I have from the DeTuck Family Assoc. In John DeTurk's Bible was found on a loose sheet of paper a register of his children in his own handwriting. The name of Deborah, the last child, is not given. this omission makes it possible to approximately fix the time of making this birthday register as 1760. The birth of Deborah was taken from a later register. A translation of the orginal record, which was made in German, is given in full: REGISTER OF THE BIRTHDAYS OF MY CHILDREN My son, Isaac, was born August 25, 1741, at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. My son, Daniel, was born September 18, 1742 at 2 o'clock My son, Johannes, was born January 28, 1747, at 6 o'clock in the afternoon. My son, Samuel, was born May 25, 1750, at half past five in the evening. My son, Abraham, was born March 2, 1752, at 10 o'clock in the evening. My son, Philip, was born April 20, 1757, at midday. My son, Jacob, was born November 24, 1759, at midday. My daughter, Susanna, was born March 27, 1745, at 4 o'clock. My daughter, Maria, was born July 16, 1748, at 1 o'clock in the morning. My daughter, Esther, was born February 19, 1753, at 10 o'clock in the morning. My unnamed daughter was born November 19, 1753 at 10o'clock in the morning and died November 23, 1753, at 1 o'clock in the morning. (Deborah was born June 15, 1761, at half past eleven at night.) Eileen Author: kfrederick Surnames: Classification: queries JOHANN TURCK (DETURCK), was born in Oley September 23, 1713, to Isaac TURCK, who was born in Frankenthal, and Maria nee LEFEBER, from the Palatinate, from Pelicam. Isaac DeTurck, with Joshua KOCHERTHAL, along with members of the Lefever family, emigrated in 1708. Johann DeTurck was baptized in 1743 in Oley since he stemmed from the Mennonites. He was a farmer. On May 13, 1740, he married Debora nee HOCH. He was received by the Moravians in 1741. Children: (A) Daniel, December 18, 1742, Oley
