    1. [PABERKS] Town of Barto
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: vmountjoy Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.berks/9848/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Where is Barto in Berks County? Checked Internet sources and the town hardly seems to exist, there is so little information on it. Can anyone tell me more about the town? Also, was there ever a German Reformed church in Barto, or if not, where was the nearest one? I am researching a family of German ancestry who belonged to this faith; they settled in Barto around the 1850's, but moved to Northumberland County in 1867. Thanks, Val Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: audianaq41 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.berks/9846.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Linn/Lynn Twp was in Northampton Co in 1752, and now is in Lehigh Co after it was formed in 1811. There is no will in Berks Co for Conrad FREY/FRY, so it must be in another county. I would try Northampton Co. I also checked Philadelphia Co since some were filed there instead of the county they resided in, but there is not a Conrad FREY file showing in that county either. The first 3 counties were Phila, Chester and Bucks. This link shows county formations for PA: http://www.mypennsylvaniagenealogy.com/pa_maps/pa_cf.htm In 1752 when Berks Co was formed, Northampton was taken from Bucks Co in the area where Linn was. It was near the Berks line. He may have died without a will, but an estate, if he had one, would be administered, esp when property was involved. 2. Arlene & Bill Houghton
    3. The little town of Barto is outside Boyertown. Barto is in or near Washington Township. My family settled in what is now Washington Township. There was a reformed church - St. Joseph's, now called Hill Church, where all my family is buried. I'm not really sure about the history of this church, but sometime it split, with part of it now being Lutheran and part reformed. The old church is the Reformed, I believe. That's the one called "Hill" church, because it is on a hill I suppose. There is a very large, old cemetery behind Hill Church, where lots of my ancestors are buried.
