    3. I also found this account in the Reading Eagle ... (Reading Eagle, Reading, PA, March 18, 1899, Pg 1). "Account of Peter D. Oswald, trustee for the sale of real estate in the estate of Peter Oswald, Rockland, who died married and testate, Jan. 10, 1868, leaving to survive a widow, mary, and 9 children. The amount for distribution is $366.69, equally divided between Thos. J., Jacob, Jonathan, Henry J., Charles O., Peter S., Alfred Oswald, Catharine Smith and Sarah Smith, each getting $40.47. // Account of Peter S. Oswald, administrator of Mary Oswald, Rockland, who died Dec. 10, 1897. The claims amount to $442.72, and the estate to $147.58." I have relatives that are descendants of Peter S Oswald. Would be interested in further discussion with the original poster of the message thread, as we too have been looking for Peter D's parents. Glenn S. Piper [email protected]

These two notices appeared one after the other in the Reading Eagle of March 1899. It identifies 9 children of Peter and Mary Oswald. Only the child Ellen from the 1870 census is not named. It's possible this Ellen might the the granddaughter Annie E., daughter of Alfred, who was raised by Mary Oswald. Reading Eagle, Reading, PA March 18, 1899 Account of Peter D. One was the 48 page file of Peter Oswald and the other was the 9 page will of Mary Oswald. These two wills might be worth looking into as I have heard of cases where the husband's will was not filed until the wife passed away. This funeral notice might be referring to the above Mary Oswald Reading Eagle, Reading, PA December 18, 1897 Bowers-Funeral of Mrs. Maria Oswald The funeral of Mrs. Maria Oswald was held from the residence of her son, Peter Oswald, near town. The remains were attired in a black shroud and reposed in a black cloth covered casket. Deceased was 77 years, 4 months and 6 days old and is survived by 8 children, 2 sisters and one brother. The bearers were James Landis, George Schaeffer, Levi Betz and Amos Weider. Rev. George B. Smith officiated. T. Delong of Topton had charge. The only reference to a deceased Peter Oswald in the Reading Eagle was this: Reading Eagle, Reading, PA March 5, 1898 On motion of the same attorney {J. K. Grant] an inquest in partition was awarded on the estate of Peter Oswald, deceased, Rockland. Another sad article I found in the Eagle, might be from the Peter Oswald family you seek: Reading Eagle, Reading, PA April 1, 1896 Was Raised By Her Grandmother Miss Annie E. Oswald, the woman who was stabbed at the Keystone Normal School, is a daughter of Alfred Oswald whose wife died many years ago. Miss Oswald comes from respectable parents. She was raised by her grandmother, Mrs. Peter Oswald, who resides on her own farm midway between Bower's and Dryville. Her condition is not at all serious, but she may bear a scar in her face for her life time. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There was a Charles Oswald, age 12 in the Jacob Schwin household of Maxatawny Twp., Berks County and a Jonathan Oswald, 21, in the household of Jacob and Judith Oswald in Longswamp Twp., Berks County. 1880 Rockland Twp., Berks Co., Roll 1100 p. 266B ED 64 Mary Oswald, 50 Catharine, 26, daughter Charles Oswald, 22, son Peter Oswald, 19, son Based on the above census records it would appear that 10 children of Peter and Mary Oswald of Rockland Township, Berks County might be: Alfred, Thomas J., Jacob, Sara, Jonathan, Catharina, Henry, Charles, Peter and Ellen. The census also suggests that Peter Oswald, husband of Mary died between 1860 and 1870, sometime after or around the time Ellen Oswald was born in approximately 1864. Narrowing the death date to between 1863 and 1870. I see no child Zacharias and the name Phebe for a wife appears in the previous posting I made regarding the Peter Oswald buried at Aulenbach Cemetery, which is not likely the correct Peter Oswald. While it's not an exact indication, I took a look at the Berks County Historical Cemeteries Index for any other Oswalds identified, on the same page as the two Peter Oswalds, (St. Paul's of Mertztown and Delongs). Delongs Cemetery Peter Oswald on page 10, no other Oswalds listed on page 10 St. Paul's Cemetery Mertztown Peter Oswald, Bessie Oswald, Charles W. Oswald and Sarah A. Oswald all on page 24 I also looked for the children of Peter and Mary Oswald in the Berks Cemeteries index and found none of them. That doesn't mean they aren't there, only they weren't there when the headstone readings were done or records made. Find-A-Grave Oswald burials in Berks County turned up none of these Oswalds. He is buried on Lot 7 in Section I, Grave 3. I traced this Peter in the census to a family living in Reading in 1850 which included: Father, Peter age 38; Mother, Phebe, age 43, Anna, Age 14, Margaretta, age 12, Phebe, age 7, Zacharias, age 5 and Eliza age 4. All claim birth in Richmond, Berks. Following them into the 1860 census on Spruce St., Reading, I found the senior Peter and some of the children were no longer in the family. It now consisted of only: Mother, Phebe Oswald, 52; daughter Phebe age 17; Eliza, age 13 and Peter age 9. In the 1870 census there seemed to be only one Peter Oswald matching the Peter in the 1860 census. In 1870 Peter Oswald, age 20 was a Hostler, in the hotel of Charles Erb of Reading. There was one other Peter Oswald in the 1879 census of Berks and he was Peter Oswald, age 9 in the household of Mary Oswald, 45, Catharine, age 17 and Ellen age 6 all of Rockland Township, Berks County. 1. [PABERKS] ISAAC WINCHESTER AND SUSAN BELL WINCHESTER
    2. Dear List I am trying to locate the existence of Isaac Winchester and his wife Susan Bell. They would have lived in Colonial Times. I guestimate Isaac was born 1697 and may have died by 1767. Susan may have been a little younger, traditional story has her born on the ship bringing her parents to America. Traditional story does not tell where they lived but they had William, John and maybe Jackie as sons. I would hope this list has local genealogists that may have marriage records that early or know the surname for their county. Thanks any information.
