Maybe a Susanah Barlet born about 1821 and died in the early 1860's. Priscilla and David are the children of Joshua and Mary's son Ephraim. Susannah is Ephraim's fist wife. It's I, who should be apologizing. Finally started a tree on ancestry.com - Schappell family tree. Maybe you've seen it? I read that you've finally found the death date for Paul William Barlet....good for you!...And, yes I have heard that he killed himself. Although, I heard it was in an outhouse???.....So, the barn story adds a new perspective and of course further speculation. I'm relatively new to this.....As you know, this genealogy thing is a vast and profound universe unto itself, so I'm really only in the embryotic stages. I started off with names and some dates that I had been given from the few family members that knew anything - not in touch with many family members outside the immediate, but I did have MY mother's father's line (Rothermel) back to Germany and MY father's line (Schappell - actually Chapelle) back to France, thanks to an older family member wh! o is actually related to both these sides through blood(distantly)- turns out so am I, and has been working on these lines and others pertaining to her families for 40 odd years. I acquired most of what I have from other trees and such from ancestry.com which can be tricky, because some of the info in trees are not backed with facts or documentation. I still have some footwork of my own to do. EVENTUALLY, I'll get to that point. For now, I'm primarily focused on names and lines. Spreading it out, then going back to fill in the gaps with more dates and documentation.....I apologize for the epic, but I wanted to touch base with a little background....My mom's mom is Esther Barlet- her mother is Hettie Barlet (nee Oswald) - As you know, she married Paul William Barlet....Viola!...We're what, 2nd cousins?...I have heard the Quillman name mentioned by my mom from time to time. Thought you might like to know that. :) She's 72...It's possible she may know some things about the Qu! illman side of your family???.....I'm desperately trying to find any i nformation on Hettie's mother and father - Elizabeth "Lizzie" Gambler 1848-1898 and John Oswald 1846-1900....Hit an absolute brick wall!...Any info on them would be greatly appreciated!...If there's any info you'd like or any questions you might like answered, I'd do my very best to accomodate.....Us armchair genealogist's have to take care of each other, right!...Once again, I apologize for the Novel. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, -Heath Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Those names mentioned by Kelly Duer below are my father's mother's relatives, my grandmother Jean F Orlando maiden name Cavanaugh. I am looking for information and this hopefully is the start. I believe that the name that comes to mind about organized crime is Tony Marrone at least that is what my uncle Michael has told me. Author: rot8tor Surnames: Hain, Hains, Haines, Haynes Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.berks/10441/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have several obits for my family that appear in the Reading (PA) Eagle and Reading (PA) Adler from 1881 to 1923 that all state my ancestors were interred at the "Lutheran cemetery". Upon researching this on site at the Trinity Lutheran church in Reading, 4 out of 6 were listed in their records as being buried in their cemetery, but 2 were not. Upon going out to their cemetery up on the hill at the end of 12th street, the plot where they were supposed to be buried according to the church records and maps was empty with no stones. So, this is where I'm stumped... Could they have been moved? If so, where? Was there more than one cemetery that would have been called "Lutheran cemetery" at that time? If so, where else would I look? Since one of the burials happened as late as 1923, you would figure that at least that headstone would have survived, right? There were two other cemeteries (one on each side) at the same location, but I don't have any information on those...can anyone shed some light on them? Thanks for any help and guidance, much appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This is what I do know: A) He died on Nov. 24, 1883 in Reading, Pa (at the Alms House in Cumru Twp) B) He lived to be 101 years, 3 months and 9 days - making his birth date to be approx. Aug 15, 1782 in Philadelphia. C) He was married to Catharine Garner (who I have no info on, but her maiden name appears on their son Frederick Hains church burial record) D) Children listed in 1883 obituary: (my direct line) Frederick Ulrich Haines aka Fred Hains (b. 25 Mar 1825 d. 09 Nov 1893), wife Catherine Dietrich (b. 02 Mar 1828 d. 14 Mar 1892); (others whom I don't know much about) John Hains who lived 6 miles below Reading; Henry Hains (of Phila.); Unknown daughter wife of Conrad Baker (of Phila.); Unknown daughter wife of William Baetzel (of Phila.); and Jane Hains (of Chicago, Illinois) E) He moved to Exeter in 1841 when he was 59 years old. Stayed there about 5 years. F) He bought a farm in GIbraltar where he farmed until about 1863. G) He was a huckster and believed to have had the first truck (produce in those days) business in Reading, PA. H) His son Fred, was also a huckster in Reading at 239 Penn Street. I) John was supposedly buried at the Lutheran cemetery according to the obit and his death record at the Register of Wills in Reading, however, when I went to Trinity Lutheran in Reading, they have no record of it....but they do have records that state Fred, his wife and sons are all buried in their cemetery. I went to the cemetery where they are supposed to be buried and there were no headstones. I'm really stumped here, but the man who maintains the graveyard said many people were moved to larger cemeteries...where would I find records of this? ----------- Any help with his parents or siblings or other ancestors would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you would like to reply to them, please click on the Message Board URL link above and respond on the board.
HI, I live in Columbus, OH and a few weeks ago a major storm came through. The Union Cemetery in Columbus had many mature trees in it. They did not endure the 80 mile per hour winds well, I drove past a few days later and there was a lot of damage, I drove past again this morning and some of the broken trees and large branches have been removed and I am sad to say I saw lots of damaged tombstones. So I would like to ask a favor of all of you with digital cameras please check FindAGrave.com to see if your ancestors memorials are there and photographed. If not please try to find some time to get to your ancestors memorials and photograph them and post the information on Find A Grave, for us all to share. You can photograph more if you like and have time, but just doing your relatives would be a big help. I have photographed most of Good Shepherd and I have added about 1/4 of the memorials listed in Find A Grave for Alsace Cemetery. So if you check Find A Grave you will see a large number of memorials there. And I live in Ohio and I can find time during my visits to Reading to photograph, so please try. Michelle in OH
